Can someone tell me why all Mac desktops look the "same" is there no way to truly modify it like other OSs?

I have no idea what you're talking about. ShapeShifter provides plenty of ways to modify OS X to look completely different.

Not trolling, I just want to see OSX different than like they are out of the box. For example not using the built-in dock or not using the bar on top like you usually see.

A lot of people do not use the dock or move it around. The menubar cannot be moved.

You mean like how every windows screenshot has a start button and taskbar?

:p

Can you replace explorer in windows? No, not in my experience.

From my time as a windows user, I don't remember being able to change that much beyond the window decorations and graphics. It still behaved like windows and you still ended up using explorer.

You can replace the mac finder with pathfinder if you wish. There is an article on macosxhints on how to permanently replace it.

Want to replace the dock? Check out Dragthing:

Look familiar? Stardock's newer versions of Object dock is a blatant rip.

Want to auto-hide the menubar? Checkout barmaid.ape.

Want a NextStep Style menu? Check out:

Here is my demo of Barmaid and Stepmenu with Swiz's NeXT theme.

Ummmm... yes you can replace explorer. That's what Litestep, Geoshell, etc. are all about and no those don't run on top of explorer like objectbar. I have been replacing explorer for many years. Just check out litestep.net and you'll see plenty of desktops not running explorer. And http://shellfront.org/ for other shell information. I have a lot of experience in this (since 1999, if you don't believe me about customizing in '99 look at this: http://desktopian.org/tinthms/pages/mo85macthm.html Explorer is not running in that shot). On my PC on my user account I have litestep going with aqua stuff running on top of it and in my admin account I have bblean going which provides a black box type desktop.

And before anyone starts, I'm also a mac user here's my Mac deskop: http://screenshots.haque.net/screenshots/v...nshot-26283.jpg

Lightstep does not replace the explorer unless something dramatic changed since I used it back in 2002. If you make a call to open a folder via a script, explorer will open up. All it does replace is the taskbar, tray area and startbutton IIRC.

I was in the modding scene between 1996-2002 on the PC on customize.org, wincustomize.com, aqua-soft.org and several others, so don't **** on me and tell me it's raining.

When you follow the directions to replace the Finder with Pathfinder, "any" call (within a program or script) for the finder will launch pathfinder instead. It is a complete replacement.

It's also possible to make other file managers pop up instead of Explorer and not by doing it manually there are some file managers that let you check a box and whenever the file manager is called they pop up instead of explorer like this one: http://www.v-com.com/product/PowerDesk_Pro_Features.html which I have used before. If you've been modding as long as you claim you shouldn't need for me to tell you that. So yes, if you use a shell and those programs you have essentially "replaced" explorer by your definition I.E. you are not using it for either the desktop or file manager. And if you are going to get vulgar (and immature) because I said something contrary to what you said, then don't **** on me and tell me it's raining either.

    • RevPDF 4.5.0 by Razvan Serea RevPDF is a free, fully offline PDF editor for Windows, macOS, and Linux that lets you edit text and images directly inside PDF files — no internet connection, no account, and no cloud uploads required. Unlike bloated alternatives that demand subscriptions and constant connectivity, RevPDF fits in under 60MB on desktop while delivering a complete editing toolkit: annotate, redact, sign, compress, split, merge, convert, and reorganize pages, all processed locally on your device. Smart font matching ensures edited text blends seamlessly with the original, and multi-language support includes RTL scripts such as Arabic and Hebrew. Where most PDF editors force you to choose between features and simplicity, RevPDF manages both. You can build interactive forms from scratch with text fields, checkboxes, and dropdowns, permanently redact sensitive data before sharing, draw freehand on contracts and diagrams, and add custom watermarks — all without a single file leaving your machine. Edit Text and Images Directly Inside PDFs RevPDF supports true inline PDF editing — not just annotation layers on top of a document, but actual modification of existing text and images within the file. A smart font-matching engine identifies the font used in the original document and applies it automatically when you make edits, so changes blend naturally with the surrounding content. You can reposition elements, resize images, and update text across single pages or entire documents. RevPDF 4.5.0 release notes: This is one of the biggest updates to RevPDF yet. A lot of things people have been asking for are finally here. New Features Auto Redaction Permanently redact sensitive text and areas from your PDFs before sharing. Clean, irreversible, and fully offline. Comments, Links & Bookmarks Add comments for review, insert clickable links, and create bookmarks to jump around long documents without scrolling forever. Find & Replace Search across the whole document and replace text in one go. Long overdue. Split Pages Vertically or Horizontally Split any page down the middle, vertically or horizontally. Perfect for scanned books or double-page spreads. New Drawing Tools More tools for freehand drawing and markup, better for annotations, sketches, and detailed notes. Continuous Scrolling in Editor The editor now scrolls continuously through pages instead of jumping between them. Working through long documents is a lot smoother now. PDF Metadata Editor View and edit the metadata stored inside your PDFs, including title, author, subject, and keywords. Better Font Matching Text edits now blend in more naturally by doing a better job of matching the original font. Tabbed PDF Viewer Open multiple PDFs at once in tabs and switch between them without going back to the home screen. Add Links Insert hyperlinks anywhere in your PDF, to external URLs or to other pages within the document. Share & Print Shortcuts Share or print directly from the editing screen, home screen, and viewer. No extra steps. Minor Updates Paste images directly from clipboard into your PDF New image editing tools for more control over images inside documents Bug Fixes Fixed file saving issues on Windows and Linux Everything still works fully offline. No login, no cloud, no account. Your files stay on your device. • Interesting. I'm not using a VPN with my phone. I tried though my home internet (Rogers) and my cellular internet (Telus) using their respective DNS servers and both trigger the dialog above.
