Quick question. I see a lot of desktops where 1. the desktop icons are obviously changed, and 2. Instead of "Macintosh HD" they have it named to something else. My question is, is it perfectly safe to just click and click again to re-name it, or, do you have to rename it some other way so it does not screw anything up in the OS?

Edit: Again, I'm new at customizing OS X, so I'm sorry, but, can the desktop HD icon be changed right from the OS its self, or do you have to get a 3rd party app. I want to change the name to iMac G5, and get an icon of the iMac G5 as well (any good sites?).... And finally, if I want to revert all this back to normal (name to "Macintosh HD", and the default icon, can it be done right through the OS as well, thanks again.

He's either using Aqua Extreme/SmoothStripes or one of the iTunes5 or Leopard guiKits. Also pyn's iChat .nib files, which can be found here.
