Not quite... I did on my MacBook, but I was having more difficulty on my iMac due to my three external all being formatted as HFS Plus. So I actually deleted the partition on my iMac and am running OS X exclusively. But Vista gives me better battery life on my MacBook.

Very nice Trash icons, can you give me links please :D

My first desk here:

How do I change how many characters of an icon, file, or folder name is displayed in finder or on the desktop before it does it's '...'? I have a few hard drives and I want the info to show instead of half of it and then ...

So instead of it showing as '500GB., 200GB free' it shows like '500GB, 20..free' or something to that effect...

Also is there any way to customize how that data is displayed beside the HD's on my desktop? I know I could do it with windows using a program called AveDesk and I believe Konfabulator used to have a desktop drive widget that was customizable but is it possible within OSX or is there another program that can accomplish this?

Also how do I get the little Apple logo beside my HD's like I see in some desktop shots? I asked this in another forum but I figure I'd ask here because if anyone knows this stuff, modders would.

mhhmmmm Lets see if I can make sense of the post :)

1. You want to know how to customize the folder/HD text so that it shows all the text instead of trimming it?

Answer: The only thing you can do is make the font size small. To do this go into the "Show View Options" and reduce the font size. About the only thing you can do - or at least the only thing I know about

2. Apple Logo

Answer: Press Option + Shift + K

:)

@thefarewellnote

I think you missed my post on the previous page, so I will paste it again

Link to your newest dock?

And regarding that trash icon, maybe it's just me, but the two vertical white lines.. one of them is always black and one is always white. They alternate as I change the size of the dock and it takes a specific dock size to make them both white at the same time. Does that happen to you too?

Is that Adium or iChat? If it's Adium, is that dock icon iBubble 3? Yours seems to be shaded nicer and looks better than what I'm using

damn dude.. that is ooold. just curious though. why do you use that version?

Because it's better, faster and more stable then Vista? lol, jokes.

1) it's a photoshop mockup

2) he/she's using a good old Retro Mac

I know people that still use Macs from 1993 everyday and see no reason to upgrade because they can do everything they need them to do, not to mention in a few more years they'll be able to sell them for good old eBay Gold.

It really is better than Vista!

It's a Mac 512k that I use to play old floppy games from time to time when I'm bored. This Mac is from 1984 and still working like it's new!!

It also looks cool on the desk next to my iMac and Mac Pro!

How on Earth did you get System 1? I thought it was only a very private internal release. And how did you get it to run on a 512k? Unless you are talking about System 6.

Wasn't System 1 shipped on the original Macintosh?

Also, it's funny to think that System 1-7 looked almost identical to one another, with only minor improvements between each one. Mac OS didn't really look a whole lot different until System 8.

    • What they really need to do is automatically spell "loses" and "lose" correctly since nobody seems to know how to anymore. Then they blame spellcheck/autocomplete and don't realize autocomplete is just filling in the word for them automatically so it was misspelled in the first place.
    • If someone chooses to continue using SB and therefore goes through the manual intervention in the thread, afterwards the BSOD problem is gone. Whether they then re-enable the task doesn't matter, they're done, though on such machines it might pay to keep it disabled in case the next update (if there is a next) causes the same problem. OTOH, if someone disables SB in the BIOS, the problem is also gone. Incidentally, I noticed that this task exists even on machines that don't support SB. It's just installed across the board...and runs. Doing what on such machines is a little hazy.
