NetGX
Hello everyone, happy new years. I was just wondering if this amp would provide enough power to run this sub. Sony Amp: Sony Sub I was looking at the 12" XSL121P5 model If not what should I be looking for? Thanks for your help Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/265171-car-audio-question/ Share on other sites
pimpshiznid
You should be looking for a mono amp, not a stereo. And that is putting out peak 100 watts, the sub will put out peak 1100watts, thus, if you were to put that amp on that sub, you'd barely power it. I don't know if you can pick it up in AU, but look for Rockford Fosgate Amps and Subs, if you are looking for a semi cheap setup. They perform much better than the Sony amps and subs. NetGX
what about this one. Sony Xplod - 4 Channel 500 Watt Amp Price $299.00 4/3 channel stereo power amplifier. 4 x 50w rms at 4 ohm, bridgeable with built in high/low cross over with MOSFET power supply and output. Or is that the exact same as the last one but with 4 channels instead Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/265171-car-audio-question/#findComment-585213826 Share on other sites
=NickJ=
Imo, avoid Sony in-car stuff at all costs. Its absolute cack. I used to work for Sony, me and all my colleagues could get Sony in-car at trade price and we STILL didn't want it lol. A quick fyi on car amps in general, most (if not all, i havent had time to check every sinle one lol) has stereo mode AND bridged mono mode. You can see from the first amp you posted that it actually runs at 250W peak when used in bridged mono @ 4ohms. So not quite as bad as originally thought, but still nowhere near enough. My suggestion would be to pick up a copy of a magazine like this: http://www.motorpoint.com.au/australianinc...nt_magazine.asp As pimpshiznid said, Rockford Fosgate make very good amps and subs, also check out Alpine, JBL, Infinity Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/265171-car-audio-question/#findComment-585286437 Share on other sites
