How do you pronouce *.gif ?

I say gif as if the g was a hard g (like the g in gown, as someone said earlier). I do suppose the creater of the poll want the "gif" answer to be a soft g, otherwise with a hard g it'd sound the same as jif. The poll should be something along the lines of:

(A) Hard 'G' [Jif, like the Peanut Butter]

(B) Soft 'G' [Gif, like Gift]
