titan0111
I am thinking of buying iBook 12" or PB 12" with standard 256MB RAM and buying 512MB RAM and installing it by myself. How hard is it? Is there an access panel like Dell's labtop? Or do I have to disassemble millions of parts? Thanks. mikedc1760
That is how you do it for the Powerbook BUT not for the iBook. Here how you do it for the iBook: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=95147. Its a old link but you get the idea, I'm sure someone will post the newer one. It has pictures and a nice walkthrough. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/265512-ibook-or-pb-ram-upgrade-help/#findComment-585215898 Share on other sites
jsklar
Its a old link but you get the idea is it pretty much the same for the newer ibooks (g4) that seem to have a different chasis? titan0111
It doesn't void the warranty people...geez 585223020[/snapback] I thought when you install the memory by yourself... It would void Apple's warrenty... Then it will be best to go with 256MB and get 512MB or 1GB from internet... NinjaMonkey82
I just installed RAM on my girlfriends 12" Powerbook yesterday. I couldn't believe how easy it was. Remove 4 screws, insert the RAM at a 30 degree angle and push down. No one should pay $70 for that. Bling3k12
The iBook is very easy. There are two prongs on the keyboard, push them and lift up the keyboard, flip it so that you see the underside of the keyboard. Right there should be the AirPort and RAM access areas, maybe remove a screw or two, I can't remember, but it's probably one of the easiest laptops I've ever upgraded. Download the users guide and go to page 51. http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Suppo...82iBookG4UG.pdf Or, if you HAVE an iBook, go to page 51. :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/265512-ibook-or-pb-ram-upgrade-help/#findComment-585231107 Share on other sites
