Apple Hardware Repair RMA Services

Recommended Posts

I have to send my powerbook into apple to have the CD drive replaced on it.

The drive no longer accepts disks and just spits them back at me after I try to insert one.

This really is sad since my powerbook is the machine I use most when at work for neowin.

I waited until today since Apple is closed for support from Dec 25 until after the 1st of the year.

Does anyone have an idea of normal work and return time for these types of services.

I am already dreading the time that I will not have my laptop

Um..... apple was open during this time!!!! The only days they were not open was christmas eve, christmas day, and new years day. Cupertino was shut down during this time... but the Tech Support people were there.... They were even working extended hours till 11pm CST instead of just 9pm CST

Sorry about the powerbook not working right.... My guess would be anywhere from 2-3 weeks at the most to complete service. Why are you sending this unit in and not just taking it to an authorized service provider? The repair probabaly could have taken place alot quicker.

The CD drive on the usint is bad, it will not take any disks and only spits them out at me.

I have taken it to CompUSA where I purchaced the unit and they sugguested I contact apple.

Their Apple Tech says that they would just send it to apple since it is for the 1 year warenty.

They were the one's who said the machine would not get worked on since their techs were out.

When I sent my iBook in to be repaired on 4 (4!!) different occasions it took about 10 - 12 days on each repair turn around. All 4 times hardware was being replaced that had failed.

I am glad they send a nice large box full of removable foam. Kept my iBook very snug. :)

Compusa doesn't know anything about Apple...

PC Tech guys there are probably not Apple Certified Tech anyway...

They do everything Next Day service. The fastest, when my screen was getting replaced, was a turn around of 3 days, not counting shipment of the product. So, the answer for the 'fastest' you could see it would be in one work week.

Best of luck and a speedy return for your powerbook!

When I took my PowerBook to CompUSA to get the logic board replaced (The ethernet port failed) they took almost 3 weeks. I found out it had been sitting at CompUSA for 2 weeks and after many calls I was able to talk to the Apple Certified employee and had him send it to Apple immediately. After it was sent to Apple they sent it back within 4 days, with a new logic board and all. Now if I have another problem with any of my Apple products I'm going to go to the Apple Certified employee so he can send it immediately (I'm good friends with him now, sometimes I go to CompUSA if I'm nearby just to talk to him). CompUSA had my PowerBook in storage for two weeks and nobody could tell me the status. I'm not going through that again.

    • Kind of glad I upgraded to S26 Ultra 1TB this year, with trade-in and discounts it cost me €1199, that's only €119 more than the S23 Ultra (256 GB) cost me. Last time I bought it via my phone provider outright with committing to two years, now via Samsung.com I reckon the S27 series will be more expensive too.
