Fighting a Speedy Ticket!?

Aren't you going to end up with points now on your license and insurance? Surely it would have been better to plead not guilty, those insurance fees will add up eventually.

Yeah, I'll have 3 points :( but there would have been no way I could have pleaded innocent and won. I was clearly speeding on an open highway, there was nothing to defend myself with!

Like I said earlier, live and learn ;)

ever gotten a ticket before? just tell the cop before trial that you didnt realize you were going so fast and that you have no priors and then ask for a seatbelt violation. thats what i did to get out of a 20mph over the limit ticket and i paid the fine and got no points on my liscense. it was like $130.

Well like I said earlier, I've had 3 tickets and plead not guilty and won each time. Must be different in Canada.

Geez - I can't believe many of you people. You act like speeding is OK - even at that level! Here, 25km/h over will land you 4 demerit points, a one month licence suspension and around a $300 fine! And trust me - they will not budge on that - unless you can prove that the speed detection device was faulty.

That kind of speed (you must've been doing 105 km/h!!) IS NOT SAFE - even without other cars!

DON'T DO IT AGAIN!!

That's wrong. I got caught going 130 on the way home from Albury/Wodonga back to Mildura, and all I got was 2 demerit points, and a $150 fine.

edit: In a 100km/h zone.

I know it's not a good excuse, but it's a bit hard not to speed in Australia. You travel 100's of KM just to get somewhere, with little or no towns along the way, and a 100km/h speed limit. The roads are built for faster speeds. 130km/h is actually a pretty comfortable cruising speed.

...I wouldn't even think of doing those sorts of speeds in anywhere near civilisation.

i stopped reading after page 5 but if u wanna lower it... tell them that u goto university and u have osap to pay and ur parents dont contribute to ur schooling... and what not they're knock it down some and ur fine. my friend had that for a red light camera he knocked it down by telling them that and that's what u want. if u dont want to fight it thats alright u were doing like 20 or 30 over right? thats about 2 - 3 points i believe.

btw is it the highway 6 north to guelph thing?...

I go to Georgia Southern University, way down in south po-dunk Georgia. I live 4 hrs north, which is in the suburbs 1 hr north of Atlanta, a 'notoriously affluent' community I guess..its where all the Atlanta athletes live etc...

anyway, one night I was driving from home back to school, and it was late, and I was at one point going 91 in a 70...this kid next to me was doing like 89 or something the officer said.. but anyway, this officer gets me in some little crap county... Basically I just said yes I know why you pulled me over, Im just trying to get back to school, its late im tired, so he writes me my first ticket ever, and asks me when I want my court date to be...I had no idea what he was talking about, so he gives me December 9 or something. Well, by that time, school is out, and im back home, im not driving 3 hours to go to court.

So I called the police office, they said the ticket would be $404 for 21 mph over.

So I just mailed them a ticket with my money order, and havent heard anything since.

I really should call them and confirm they recieved my payment....

but I was unsure about going into court anyway, I didnt know if I need a lawyer or what, plus I dont really have anything to say. I was just driving fast, and I know it.

My parents don't know, but they also pay my insurance, so Im worried if eventually the insurance co. will re-run my license and see I have something on my record?

I'm 18...and very new to these things.

Matt

just explain to your dad that you got a ticket. I have gotten a few in my time my first when I was 16 for going 15 over the limit. I fought that one down to a 1 point defective Vehicle charge and paid the court costs which was almost as much as the ticket. Anyway just keep your nose clean for while and it shouldn't affect your insurance to much. If you get another one or two then you'll see it go up. One they expect; more than one sets off a flag in the insurance company and they will flag you as a risk.

Good Luck
