No kidding. But it does mean that Microsoft doesn't plan on working on it, except to move users to another JVM.

Yeah thats in 2008 though so until then stop telling us to use something that works and works MUCH better than an alternative

IceDogg, I'm not trying to change anybody's mind. Just displaying the fact that MS's version is OK to use. It's not like I am trying to force people to use it and I even posting information for when it stops. Just saying stop telling us to use something different when the MS way works.

I'm a Java developer, and Microsoft's Java implementation IS outdated. It is also highly incompatible with Sun's Java implementation (the proper one), so many new Java applets will be incompatible with it -- those which use Java 2 1.50, 1.4.2, 1.3 and possibly 1.2 features.

You say that it will be supported until 2007, but work stopped on it a long time ago. When it says they will support it, it means that they will give you technical support about using it until that date.

And as for Sun's Java implementation being slower, give me a break. It is extremely highly optimised, and the server JVM has been proven to be faster than C++ in most cases. Sun's Java is one of the most actively developed pieces of software in the world today, and uses various optimisation techniques, like HotSpot and JIT technology

Where did you get the idea that Sun's JVM is slower anyway? From AWT/Swing?

I seen it somewhere where you can do this.. Just like you can add active X to FireFox, however it's not supported by the Firefox team.. again like Active X isn't. I forgot where.. but wanted to tell you about it.. so you would know.

Where would I be able to find it? Google searches bring up links on how to remove MSJVM, which isn't helpful.

As for why, I just do not like Sun's java. I know it is old but at least for me it is faster. This is just for me and the difference between the two is very noticeable.

I can't remember where I seen it at.. but I would do a search at Mozilla.. I have read a lot of info there.. so odds are good that's where I seen it.

Microsoft were told to remove their java component from windows hence SP1a which was SP1 - MSJVM.

Thus microsoft are no longer supporting it, same way as Windows98 is not being supported, do you really think that come 2006/7.... they will give support to win98 again? NO they won't same as they won't to thier java vm either, theres J#.NET for them to thinker with and besides Sun make the offical JavaVM they invented it.
