Jambooo
I've just installed Mandrake 10.1 on my laptop. During the installation process, I couldn't type a root password or add a user (my keyboard didn't seem to be initialized) - so I skipped a root password and just clicked next at the new user screen. Now, whenever I boot from the Linux partition - I get a login screen asking for a password (which I didn't set). It doesn't have a username, just the default user pic and a space for password. When I try and skip the password (or type one) - the window just shakes. I tried booting from the cd again but it just skipped strait to the end. Is there a default password? Can anyone help? Codegen
Did you try logging in as root? Any needed changes can be made when you are running through root. Jambooo
Hmm, I only know how to boot the OS at the moment so further instructions would be helpful. I googled, and managed to change the root password but not too sure how to actually log in as root. Thanks for the quick reply. bolerodan
try logging into a console, press CTL+ALT+F1 through F6 to get a command prompt and type inroot and if there is no password it should just log you in. You then set you're password after wards and can add users when logged in the console as root -bolero Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/267193-fluffed-up-mandrake-install/#findComment-585238272 Share on other sites

bolerodan
I dont think you can with Mandrakes GUI login screen (modified KDM?) So logging into a console as root to add new users should work. -bolero Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/267193-fluffed-up-mandrake-install/#findComment-585238309 Share on other sites
