Winston
After recent news and past news about an iPod version going flash based, i've thought about some other way they could have done it, this is just my naive thoughts, i don't know if it can be technically achievable, but wondering what your thoughts are to it. Since Apple envisioned and so did iPod owners, flash-drive capabilities on the iPod, they decided to make another version of iPod, which is 1gb - 2gb in size, that supports flash-drive technology. However i anticipated they were going to in some way make the HDD version iPods flash based. Now my thoughts were, why didn't they attach a flash-drive memory component into the HDD version of the iPod, and when people connect it up to a USB, they can store small contents on flash component, and if desired, they can adjust settings so that the contents are shadowed-copied into the HDD, or can be requested to be copied over to the HDD. Wouldn't this work? Just my thoughts. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/268279-an-ipod-idea/ Share on other sites
tariq
from a praticality standpoint, it doesn't seem very good IMO. if you already have a hard drive which is 1-5GB in size, few would ever need additional storage. the cost of these cards while not as expensive in years past, are still not cheap. also, it'd be too cumbersome to use, and how would you sync it with itunes if you can change cards? in the end though, it just adds unnecessary complexity (apple is all about simplicity) and it would add to the overall size (and perhaps cost) of the unit.
