Remote wire for car amp

Recommended Posts

I installed my jensen 10" sub, powered by a 222w Sony XPLOD amp, it was all free!! The power light turns red everytime i turn it up. My remote wire is a 20g wire, and someone told me that that could be my problem. Should i go with a bigger wire? Or what does the problem sound like it is to you guys?

20 gauge? Wow, I've never even heard of that size before. I would think that if the power light turns red that would mean its on. Make sure you have someone who knows what they're doing with your car/system otherwise you could really **** up your car or subs. I've had it happen to me before. Some things I'd recommend checking: fuses in the power wire, making sure its properly connected to the battery, and making sure RCA, power, and remote cables are all connected correctly to your deck.

I am not familiar with this amp. But it is possible that the amp is going into protect mode. You should make sure the amp is set at LPF if it is driving your subs. Also, what guage power wire are you using? I would think 8 guage is fine for that much power. have you checked to make sure everything is being powered correctly?

me and my buddy (he owns a car audio shop) started installing it yesterday, and hes the one that said it sounded like a remote wire problem, so im prolly gonna get some 12g from him and maybe try it, if not then ill do an RCA adapter, b/c its stock headunit. But no if the lite is red then its off, if the lite is green its on. Kinda like red=stop; green=go, i just dont wanna get into spending 500 bux on my headunit, b/c if i buy tis gonna be a JVC Chameleon. The only way to go, idk what im gonna do, maybe just an RCA adapter if the remote wire isnt the prob.

well, you're gonna need a LOC (line out converter) if you want to use your sub. You will also need to run a remote wire from something else that gets toggled on, ie: headlights, ignition, etc. It's a bit more complex than it seems.

If you aren't using a LOC, how is the amp getting the signal?

EDIT: I should also ask, have you properly set the gains on your amp?

    • There really isn't anything magical about the low latency profile, other OS's do this as well. All they're doing is using your CPUs boost clock options in a more smarter way.
    • So we shouldn't have the option because of people using their laptops on battery? OK? LOL
    • If you hear that fans for a limited time the CPU spikes to open a app I don't think the problem is with the software. There shouldn't be enough time spent at the higher clocks to produce enough heat to peak the fans. Maybe it's time to crack those dell laptops open and clean them out?
