0 NeoCosmo
I think WinRAR can't open *.msi. Thanks for Packet1009's information, and any other Orca's alternatives? 0 NeoCosmo
Anyway, I have downloaded and installed Orca.msi. :) But I don't know how to pick files out from *.msi by Orca.... Could you tell me how to use? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/269807-how-to-view-msi-contents-without-installing/#findComment-585277855 Share on other sites
0 Packet1009
you open the file through Orca and look at the File table - it'll show you the GUID/CLSID for the file and the names of the files. So that's the viewing side of things taken care of. However, extraction is a tad more complicated. winrar 3.42 lets you open the msi but it'll show you the files in their long GUID etc naming scheme - you'd have to compare with Orca and rename. I am still looking for apps to pick out individual files from .msi packages - supposedly there is an msicab.exe available in the windows installer sdk as per an msdn blog - but i havent been able to locate it despite installing the sdk's. will update if/when i get more info. 0 Daybreak
On a sidenote, anyone know how to do the same for NSIS installers? I've looked around, but then doesn't seem to be a NSIS file extractor/decompiler. 0 NeoCosmo
Thank everyone. Winrar can open some *.msi correctly only, but it's a good enough information to me. I am also like Daybreak and would like to know ways to extract files from NSIS installer. If you have any ideas, please let me know. Thank you in advance!!
