I put some shortcuts to folders in my SendTo folder and when want to send a file to that folder throught

it copies the file instead of moves it.

Is there a way to have it move the file instead of copying it using send to???

I know if you drag a file from on drive to another drive it will do a copy and if you do from the same drive then it will do a move. Is there a way to change that?

(Ironic there's Windows / System32 in there! :D)

...any1 have any Clues?! :D

The old Windows Powertoys adds this option to the SENDTO menu. You can either move or copy a file to another drive, folder etc. The old Powertoys work with all versions of Windows, including XP. I am using both with no problems on my 2 XP Pro machines. The old Powertoys have some very useful features that are missing from the XP Powertoys. The new XP Powertoys install like any other program. The old Powertoys install to the Control Panel, that's probably why they don't conflict. I would be glad to send you the file if you can't find it on the internet. Just email me.

Hurting101:

Go to this folder and you can add and delete shortcuts and things.

Thanks for the link to that sendto program. I'm going to try it out. It seems like just what I'm looking for. Too bad I have to use a 3rd party app. Pretty sure it probably does use too much resources.

Okay. Maybe that program is not what I was looking for. I just want to be able to use the SendTo with moving my files instead of copying them. Like if I have:

= Right Click

= SendTo

- Desktop as Shortcut

- A: Drive

- Downloads (Folder Shortcut)

- Drivers (Folder Shortcut)

I want to be able to choose Downloads and then it moves the file to that folder instead of copying it.

Move To reg key :

(copy and paste into notepad and save with a .reg extension.)

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTAllFilesystemObjectsshellexContextMenuHandlersMove To]

@="{C2FBB631-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}"

was that so hard? ;)

*edit* everything between the [ and ] belongs on the first line, neowin cut's it off.

Chris

That i know of there are 2 freeware downloads that are related to what you were looking for. There is Sendto, made by Trogladite software, thats the one i have installed. Its effective. And there is sendtotoys, more options. But i do not like it too much. Sendto copies it to a folder or moves in to a folder. Sendtotoys just copies it, so once you copy it to another folder, you will have to delete the other folder. If you cant find any of them i mentioned do a search or go to webattack.com. I hope that my words were useful.

Just so you understand what happens when you copy and move files. This might help you in figuring out what it is that you want.

When you Copy a file on the same partition - New file is created, new pointer added to FAT

When you Move on same partition - Pointer to a file's location is updated in FAT.

When you Move between partitions - New file is created on the target partition, new pointer added to FAT; existing file is deleted.

When you Copy between partitions - New file is created on the target partition, new pointer added to FAT; existing file remains.

Copying and moving files also affects the files attributes and permissions.

Anytime you have a new file created (copy same or different partition, move to different partition) the file will inherit the target folders permissions.

Nicedreams, I finally understood what you're trying to do. You wanna tweak your "download/save" folder. Why download to a folder and then send to another? I suggest you tweak your "places bar". You know, when you use the "open-save" dialog, there are, by default, your documents, your desktop, and a couple other ones, listed vertically on the left. You can change it to any folder, you can do it with Tweak UI, X-Setup, editing the Registry... Then you download to one of those folders.

What do you think?

IC...

Well, it was a suggestion...

Anyway, do you know what I'm talking about?(places bar)

Also, do you have "copy to/move to" on the right click context menu? If don't, get the reg file, it's very easy to find, let me know if you need it. Btw, I just figured out that typing sendto in the "start/run" opens the "send to folder".

You take care!:)

    • Couldn't a custom power plan help to park the non x3d ccd's? Then that would solve this latency/performance issues people are having with the x3d chips?
    • So is Ubuntu and Fedora (with GNOME). It's a welcome move and those that need X11 can easily install as pointed out in the article it but that won't stop a loud minority from whining of course. Funny but It will actually be easier to install X11 on Ubuntu then enable Flatpak support/Flathub and use them.
    • End of an era? Kubuntu is removing default support for X11 in new installs by David Uzondu X11, the old window system whose days have long felt numbered, just saw another one of its major supporters head for the exit. Kubuntu has decided to follow its parent distro's lead, making its next release, version 25.10, a Wayland-only affair for fresh installs. It seems many Linux developers see Wayland as the future. Just recently, Linux Mint started working to improve support for the protocol in Cinnamon, tackling lingering issues with keyboard layouts and input methods. You can even see the progress in KDE's development, where an upgrade to Wayland PiP is planned for KDE Plasma 6.5. So what's the logic behind dropping a session that, for the most part, still works? According to Kubuntu's Rik Mills, the team wants to "rip off this sticking plaster" now, in an interim release, rather than ###### off a lot of people by doing it in the next Long-Term Support version, 26.04. The developers feel that maintaining code for the aging X11 system holds back progress on security and new features that Wayland can enable more easily. Plus, supporting two separate display servers is a massive undertaking. Of course, this change might have some people worried, but relax; all is not lost if you still need the old session. If you're running hardware that acts up, like some older NVIDIA cards, or who relies on an ancient application that doesn't play nicely with the XWayland compatibility layer, you can still get your familiar session back. Just enter the following command in your terminal: sudo apt install plasma-session-x11 Once that command finishes, the X11 session will appear as an option on the login screen, so you can carry on as before. As OMGUbuntu notes, not everyone in the Ubuntu family is following its lead just yet. Other official flavors like Xubuntu, Ubuntu Budgie, and Ubuntu Cinnamon are expected to keep offering an X11 session on their default installs for this cycle.
    • Mangohud hasn't been built into "Steam Deck", it has been built into SteamOS. I understand that your goal is to try and praise MS for a simple feature that everyone else has, but we are comparing OS vs OS. Hardware does not have anything "built-in". Software does. Like it or not, SteamOS has it "built-in". And it is far superior to XBOX game bar's information.
