I put some shortcuts to folders in my SendTo folder and when want to send a file to that folder throught

it copies the file instead of moves it.

Is there a way to have it move the file instead of copying it using send to???

I know if you drag a file from on drive to another drive it will do a copy and if you do from the same drive then it will do a move. Is there a way to change that?

(Ironic there's Windows / System32 in there! :D)

...any1 have any Clues?! :D

The old Windows Powertoys adds this option to the SENDTO menu. You can either move or copy a file to another drive, folder etc. The old Powertoys work with all versions of Windows, including XP. I am using both with no problems on my 2 XP Pro machines. The old Powertoys have some very useful features that are missing from the XP Powertoys. The new XP Powertoys install like any other program. The old Powertoys install to the Control Panel, that's probably why they don't conflict. I would be glad to send you the file if you can't find it on the internet. Just email me.

Hurting101:

Go to this folder and you can add and delete shortcuts and things.

Thanks for the link to that sendto program. I'm going to try it out. It seems like just what I'm looking for. Too bad I have to use a 3rd party app. Pretty sure it probably does use too much resources.

Okay. Maybe that program is not what I was looking for. I just want to be able to use the SendTo with moving my files instead of copying them. Like if I have:

= Right Click

= SendTo

- Desktop as Shortcut

- A: Drive

- Downloads (Folder Shortcut)

- Drivers (Folder Shortcut)

I want to be able to choose Downloads and then it moves the file to that folder instead of copying it.

Move To reg key :

(copy and paste into notepad and save with a .reg extension.)

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTAllFilesystemObjectsshellexContextMenuHandlersMove To]

@="{C2FBB631-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}"

was that so hard? ;)

*edit* everything between the [ and ] belongs on the first line, neowin cut's it off.

Chris

LOL, do u guys have XP or what ?

dude, right click on ur tool bar in any folder and in the " Avalable tool bar options " it will say 'Move to' add it and its done & it will be added in ur toolbar in every folder. I love this feature, i dont think there is a day i go without using it. let me know if this works out for u.

That i know of there are 2 freeware downloads that are related to what you were looking for. There is Sendto, made by Trogladite software, thats the one i have installed. Its effective. And there is sendtotoys, more options. But i do not like it too much. Sendto copies it to a folder or moves in to a folder. Sendtotoys just copies it, so once you copy it to another folder, you will have to delete the other folder. If you cant find any of them i mentioned do a search or go to webattack.com. I hope that my words were useful.

Just so you understand what happens when you copy and move files. This might help you in figuring out what it is that you want.

When you Copy a file on the same partition - New file is created, new pointer added to FAT

When you Move on same partition - Pointer to a file's location is updated in FAT.

When you Move between partitions - New file is created on the target partition, new pointer added to FAT; existing file is deleted.

When you Copy between partitions - New file is created on the target partition, new pointer added to FAT; existing file remains.

Copying and moving files also affects the files attributes and permissions.

Anytime you have a new file created (copy same or different partition, move to different partition) the file will inherit the target folders permissions.

Nicedreams, I finally understood what you're trying to do. You wanna tweak your "download/save" folder. Why download to a folder and then send to another? I suggest you tweak your "places bar". You know, when you use the "open-save" dialog, there are, by default, your documents, your desktop, and a couple other ones, listed vertically on the left. You can change it to any folder, you can do it with Tweak UI, X-Setup, editing the Registry... Then you download to one of those folders.

What do you think?

IC...

Well, it was a suggestion...

Anyway, do you know what I'm talking about?(places bar)

Also, do you have "copy to/move to" on the right click context menu? If don't, get the reg file, it's very easy to find, let me know if you need it. Btw, I just figured out that typing sendto in the "start/run" opens the "send to folder".

You take care!:)

    • The Nokia Lumias? Or the third-party HTC One8's? I had HTC's hardware cuz it was slick and reliable... but, yeah, the software left me wanting more and I just couldn't allocate personal time to develop all of the software I would have wanted to see (overworked in other capacities @ MSFT at the time, heh).
    • Microsoft's mobile strategy had great future vision and UX research, but mediocre engineering and inadequate support (third-party and internal business alike). The death knell for WinMo was Google's (mostly YouTube's) incessant API blocking and purposeful release of buggy WinMo builds to force consumers to stay away -- and this was conducted via sabotage of whatever partnerships they were supposed to play nice in. I still yearn for that UI on a modern smartphone...
    • Linux has always been an option but never adopted by the masses despite being free. The reasons are limited usability and features. Despite everything we all complaint about with MS , the overall experience for the general public is much better than what Linux can deliver.
    • If nothing works automatically for you, I'd say pick a better/different distro. Granted, it's trickier with laptops because they use all kinds of weird hardware, but still. I actually just did a fresh Arch Linux install on my netbook, and given that Arch is certainly not an "automagical" distro, I had to do very little manual tweaking, everything but the audio worked out of the box (including plasma and Wayland) and the audio was simply an issue of installing an additional firmware package that wasn't included in the default selection. Which is equivalent of installing additional drivers in Windows. Surely a more user-oriented distro would be even less troublesome (but granted, I haven't used/tested anything outside of Arch for quite some time). And let's not forget that a fair bit of issues that get blamed on Linux (though it also applies to Windows issues) are actually caused by hardware vendors not giving a damn.
    • The reason Linux will never succeed for consumers is simple. There are 800 distro’s and 400 active versions. As a consumer, “I want Linux” - great, which one? No single App Store, and websites will say “use this app, oh, sorry, doesn’t work on yours”. No single place for support, community help is reduced, so many apps don’t work or have compatibility problems. Drivers from manufacturers have issues. The gaming industry isn’t behind it. if you have an old pc, then sure, try Linux, you might love it. But the arguments above don’t stack up.
