I put some shortcuts to folders in my SendTo folder and when want to send a file to that folder throught

it copies the file instead of moves it.

Is there a way to have it move the file instead of copying it using send to???

I know if you drag a file from on drive to another drive it will do a copy and if you do from the same drive then it will do a move. Is there a way to change that?

(Ironic there's Windows / System32 in there! :D)

...any1 have any Clues?! :D

The old Windows Powertoys adds this option to the SENDTO menu. You can either move or copy a file to another drive, folder etc. The old Powertoys work with all versions of Windows, including XP. I am using both with no problems on my 2 XP Pro machines. The old Powertoys have some very useful features that are missing from the XP Powertoys. The new XP Powertoys install like any other program. The old Powertoys install to the Control Panel, that's probably why they don't conflict. I would be glad to send you the file if you can't find it on the internet. Just email me.

Hurting101:

Go to this folder and you can add and delete shortcuts and things.

Thanks for the link to that sendto program. I'm going to try it out. It seems like just what I'm looking for. Too bad I have to use a 3rd party app. Pretty sure it probably does use too much resources.

Okay. Maybe that program is not what I was looking for. I just want to be able to use the SendTo with moving my files instead of copying them. Like if I have:

= Right Click

= SendTo

- Desktop as Shortcut

- A: Drive

- Downloads (Folder Shortcut)

- Drivers (Folder Shortcut)

I want to be able to choose Downloads and then it moves the file to that folder instead of copying it.

Move To reg key :

(copy and paste into notepad and save with a .reg extension.)

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTAllFilesystemObjectsshellexContextMenuHandlersMove To]

@="{C2FBB631-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}"

was that so hard? ;)

*edit* everything between the [ and ] belongs on the first line, neowin cut's it off.

Chris

That i know of there are 2 freeware downloads that are related to what you were looking for. There is Sendto, made by Trogladite software, thats the one i have installed. Its effective. And there is sendtotoys, more options. But i do not like it too much. Sendto copies it to a folder or moves in to a folder. Sendtotoys just copies it, so once you copy it to another folder, you will have to delete the other folder. If you cant find any of them i mentioned do a search or go to webattack.com. I hope that my words were useful.

Just so you understand what happens when you copy and move files. This might help you in figuring out what it is that you want.

When you Copy a file on the same partition - New file is created, new pointer added to FAT

When you Move on same partition - Pointer to a file's location is updated in FAT.

When you Move between partitions - New file is created on the target partition, new pointer added to FAT; existing file is deleted.

When you Copy between partitions - New file is created on the target partition, new pointer added to FAT; existing file remains.

Copying and moving files also affects the files attributes and permissions.

Anytime you have a new file created (copy same or different partition, move to different partition) the file will inherit the target folders permissions.

Nicedreams, I finally understood what you're trying to do. You wanna tweak your "download/save" folder. Why download to a folder and then send to another? I suggest you tweak your "places bar". You know, when you use the "open-save" dialog, there are, by default, your documents, your desktop, and a couple other ones, listed vertically on the left. You can change it to any folder, you can do it with Tweak UI, X-Setup, editing the Registry... Then you download to one of those folders.

What do you think?

IC...

Well, it was a suggestion...

Anyway, do you know what I'm talking about?(places bar)

Also, do you have "copy to/move to" on the right click context menu? If don't, get the reg file, it's very easy to find, let me know if you need it. Btw, I just figured out that typing sendto in the "start/run" opens the "send to folder".

You take care!:)

    • Hynix 2TB Platinum P41 NVMe Gen4 2280 SSD is back at a mouth-watering price by Sayan Sen If you are in the market for an SSD, especially an M.2 2280 NVMe drive, then take a look at the Platinum P41 from SK hynix, which is currently back to its lowest price in the last six or so months (purchase link down below). This is a Gen4 SSD that promises sequential reads and writes of up to 7000MB/s and 6500MB/s, respectively. Meanwhile, the sequential read and write speeds are rated at up to 1400K IOPS and 1300K IOPS, respectively. The 2TB variant of the P41 features a 2GB DDR4 DRAM cache as well, which is meant to improve write caching and random access times with quicker metadata look-ups. Hynix says that the drive can operate at temperatures of up to 70 °C and thus you should opt for a heatsink if you intend to do data transfers for longer periods at a time. That should not be a problem, as the P41 Platinum is based on 176-layer TLC NAND and has a rated endurance of up to 1200 TBW (terabytes written) for 2TB. Make sure to update the firmware for the Platinum P41, as it fixes a throttling issue wherein the SSD would drop speeds after being used for several months (via Lower-Tone-3503 on Reddit). SSD firmware updates can often resolve critical problems, like in the case of WD/SanDisk SSDs, for example, which are still blocking Windows 11 24H2 due to inappropriate firmware. Get the SK hynix P41 at the link below: SK hynix Platinum P41 M.2 2280 NVMe SSD without heatsink: $129.99 + $10 off w/ promo code SACET23323, limited offer => $119.99 (Newegg US) You can also check out the other SSD deals we have covered in these articles here. • Until EVs get solid state batteries that can last 800miles+ on a single charge in Canada's -50°C weather, all while functioning 100% offline, they're still just at a guineapig testing stage IMO, and simply not worth purchasing...
    • I would question if Neowin really needs science research studies/stories than.
    • Microsoft reveals Mu, an on-device small language model built into Windows 11 by Pradeep Viswanathan Last year, Microsoft revealed Copilot+ PCs featuring a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of over 40 TOPS or more. These Copilot+ PCs came with Phi-Silica, an on-device SLM to bring language intelligence capabilities to Microsoft's own first-party apps and apps from other 3rd-party developers. Today, Microsoft revealed Mu, a new on-device small language model built into Windows 11. Microsoft's goal was to create an AI-powered agent within the Settings app that can understand a user's natural language queries and integrate it into the existing search box for a smooth user experience. Hence, Microsoft is using the new Mu model to power the new agent feature in the Settings app, which was made available to Windows Insiders recently in the Dev Channel with Copilot+ PCs. Like Phi-Silica, Mu is designed to operate efficiently on NPUs, delivering over 100 tokens per second while running locally. In the official blog post, Microsoft explained how they designed and trained the Mu language model. Here's an overview of the Mu language model: Mu is a 330M encoder-decoder language model. The encoder-decoder approach achieved about 47% lower first-token latency and 4.7× higher decoding speed compared to a decoder-only model of similar size. Mu uses weight sharing in certain components to reduce the total parameter count. Microsoft trained Mu using NVIDIA A100 GPUs on Azure Machine Learning. Mu is nearly comparable in performance to a similarly fine-tuned Phi-3.5-mini, despite being one-tenth of the size. The model is better suited for multi-word queries. So for short or partial-word inputs, the Settings app will continue to surface lexical and semantic search results in the search box. Interested users can download Windows 11 Build 26120.3964 (KB5058496) or higher to check out this new AI-powered agent in the Windows Settings app.
