Hiya everyone, I have been waiting for the day for this section to be put in, yay! :)

Right, what I need help with. I am hopefully going to buy a Peugeot 106 2002 Independence for myself, and maybe do some modifications to it, alloys maybe some new brake lights etc. But I need some Car insurance obviously, I am male and 17 and in the UK, that *apparently* means trouble. I had got a quote from a random company I found in the Phone book and they quoted me ?1350 for a 1.1 Peugeot, as quoted above. Rediculous, I was wondering if anyone has any good advice on Car Insurance sellers, cheap ones with good service and reliability? I need Fully Comprehensive and 3rd Party is just not good enough. Also, I have checked out Tesco Car insurance and I don't want to go with them because if you crash into another Tesco car insurance user you aren't covered, thats why it's so cheap. Check their Terms and Conditions for information on it.;)) Also, just for reference I have added a picture of the same model car I am getting.

Thanks everyone,

JMann

you are going to have a hard time beating that quote, especially fully comp.

see if they can bump your excess up a bit, that should reduce the premium a little. but honestly, you'll have a hard time beating that.

www.confused.com will search through a load of insurance providers for you, give it a shot.

My first insurance in my car when I was 20 was ?1600, in the same car with 3 years no claims, and I'm 24 now it's only ?450 a year.

I'm with Nationwide, and I drive a Saxo 1.6 VTR.

"More than" were cheaper (quoted in 2004) than Nationwide, but I work for Nationwide, so it's just easier.

Looks like your in the same boat that as all other 17yr old lads in the UK, that quote is quite reasonable for the car. Im 21 now and only just seeing my insurance start to fall.

The best way to start is to get someone else who has been driving awhile and is older, and take the policy out in there name, and have you on the policy as a named driver.

Give http://www.cis.co.uk a go, they were great for the first year I was driving, the reason your being qouted that much is becasuse of your age, age of the car and the value of the car, insurance companys recommend for your first car you have something that is cheap, like a 10yr old fiesta or something! (Yeah i laughed at this as well)

Start off your driving on someone elses policy, only problem is you dont build up your own no claims discount, so only do this for the first couple of years to get you started.

Im now driving a Y Reg 1.6 Zetec Focus, and the insurance is only ?45 a month.

Hope this information helps.

Lose the alloys and the mods, unless you want to take the illegal route.

My friend has a Renault Clio 1.4 16v 2001, and he pays just over ?800 for his insurance.

Another guy has a Rover Metro 1.1 'J' reg (ha) and he pays about ?900.

I got quoted for my Dad's Merc A-Class 1.4 'W' reg as a second driver, and its only an extra ?250.

You are being ripped.

Whoa, thanks for all your reply's. I am looking in depth into all your suggestions. Its just annoying all 17 to 20 year olds are so untrusted.

Edit: [NFC]Wave, yeah sometimes it sucks until man meets woman.

585287737[/snapback]

Well, it's the previous 17-20 year old drivers that have ruined it for us. Blame your elders everyone! haha.

Yeah, it sucks until you meet a girl...but then you still have to pay the insurance and now you have to keep the lady happy too, which in turn costs you more money indirectly :pinch: Ain't life a bitch ;)

I pay $1700 for full coverage on a 1999 Mustang GT Convertible. Which i am the original owner of. They say your insurance goes down a lot when you hit 27, BS! I'm 28 and the insurance has only gone down $300 over the last 5 years! I ordered a new '05 GT and shudder to think what i am going to pay now with 300HP and 320 Torque. Hopefully those new side impact airbags will put it down a little.

Best just to drive a totally unmodified banger until you hit about 22-23 - and get some no claims bonus points under your belt.

I'm currently insured on my reasonably well modified Corrado G60 - various stuff including koni suspension, alloys, a bit of engine tweakage (power increase of 50BHP) exhaust, stereo, etc etc.. last year (at 23 with 3 years no claims) I was paying ?1,400 fully comp - this year that has dropped by a significant amount - same policy is now being offered to me at ?770 - now 24 with 4 years no claims.

I've spent a long time paying through the damn nose with expensive cars to get where I am now. I can only reccomend sticking with a cheap reliable unmodified motor as I don't know if it was worth it to be quite honest.

try CIS again. my parents are with them and we like them alot. you can even get someone who works for the company come out and talk with you. well in my area you can because the insureance sales men lives up the road. hardly get that now do you?

my mum insures my car for me. it in her name, it's fully comp any driver. but got me(age 16) and my dad (6 points) as named drivers.

i drive a smart car which is like group 1-2 and its only ?600,

now if i wanted to just insure it in my name it would be like well over the ?1500 mark because i'm 16, even thou i'm reged as disabled and even tryed royal sun allience who insure disabled drivers quoted over 2k

also try Liverpool Victoria. Norwich union. you just have to spend some time looking thru the yello pages and you local pages (such as bt or thompson local)

normaly when my bro, dad or me need insureance my mum does it because she finds all the good companys and has tons of time on her hands.

also keep trying with other companies other so many weeks. because it's about risk and how many people they insure. it's very compleaxed

I used to do that with all my clients.

Yep...if you are under your parent's policy, you will save money.

Yeah, but insurance companies don't change rates weekly....it's more of a bi-annual....possibly even yearly. Just to change rates, takes the insurance companies many months to do.

im 18 years old. i had a clio (52 plate) insurance was ?1400, it WAS a 1.2 16v, no mods cos i hate them. Then i crashed her into a field. This was with my mum as the main driver and me as a SECOND driver. I could of got insured by my self but it was ?3000!

So i bought myself a new clio, same model just got some extras, air con etc, now, i just renewed my insurance policy, its ?700 with the same details as above. in my own name its still ?2200.

If your parents will let you its best to get it in your parents name, BUT only if there the primary driver. (its not correct to just put it in there name to save money)

EDIT:!!! The above policys are with tescos (there very good), but i got some quotes with Norwich union and there even better! for the same price as the clio 1.2 16v i can get insured on a Audi A3 1.8turbo. There like 6-8 insurance groups higher, but its ?3000 in my own name for the audi.

Currently I am paying ?740 to insure my 2001 VW Golf GT TDI PD130. I'm 23 with 3 years no claims living in near a city centre and parking on the street. This is through Privilege Insurance, not too bad I think.

The previous insurer I used was Churchill and they were well cheap (around ?400) on my two smaller cars when I had them - 97' VW Polo and a '93 Rover Metro. As with one of the other suggestions on this thread I would recommend you do a Pass Plus - it?s probably worth over ?150-200 saving on your insurance if you do it and it only should cost ?80 to do it.

pass plus (by law) has to be 6 FULL lessons, most lessons are around ?20 a lesson so i mare that to be ?120. And you will only really benifit from it for the first 2 years, but its still worth it. i wish i had done it, but theres nothing worse that passing your test then having to sit with an instructor for another 6 hours!

They also got caught hiding their legally mandated free version so they could release a second one that pushed countless people into charges they didn't need to pay to file. Intuit leads the charge on inventing problems so they can sell you the solution and disrespecting you in the process.
