Power problems in car

Recommended Posts

Hey there,

Here's my situation: I've got two woofers in the back, with an amp mounted beside them. Don't ask me the wattage or the woofer size, as it's been ages since I opened my trunk to mess with the audio (have it perfect right now).

Anyways, when I have the music up and a song has plenty of bass, I notice my headlights dimming during high bass output. Obviously due to the amp draining power.

My question is: What can be done to keep a steady level of power running to it without this sort of thing happening?

If your system is pretty powerful you might need to check your alternator.

It may be putting out enough amps to run the car properly, but not enough to cover the demand. If your car doesn't have alot of miles on it, and you're demanding alot of power from your electrical system you might want to look into replacing the origional alternator with a higher amperage output replacement.

A store that sells and deals with speakers and amps could probably check your alternator for you.

You could always check your ground wire too.

A more simple solution to the problem would be to add a 1 farad capacitor to the direct power and ground lines coming in your trunk, to provide a point where the power has the ability to build up, for when the sub hits.

It will stop the dimming of the headlights, and has been know to make a difference in the quality of the bass coming out of the subs, as the amp is getting starved for power at the point of the dimming.

Hey Buddy...Did you Install the System yourself? Did you notice the Headlights Before when the System first got installed? If they didn't before, Pretty Soon your going to be looking at getting a new Battery and/or Alternator... Most Definitely a Battery in the near Future sorry for that bad News buddy... To try to prevent that in the future you should look into a Capacitor... 1.5 Farad Capacitor should be enough for your Basic 750watt System up.... Let us know....keep us posted...

    • Not sure what country you’re in but in many countries you can absolutely jail the sellers behind businesses… in fact I’d say in most countries you can do that
