I think my girlfriend is making the Switch.

Sorry, but I just had to share my enthusiasm...

After years of being a PC person herself, I think my girlfriend is finally making the switch to Apple, all thanks to a little fellow called the MacMini.

I really think for a person like her this is a no brainer.

Her and her friend are in the process of starting a Wedding Invitations company, so my girl is just getting into working with all of the Adobe apps full steam, and her friend works on a Mac already, which will make it just that much easier for them to share files.

Other than that, all she really does is Organize her Music (I just got her a 20gb iPod for Christmas so she currently uses iTunes on Windows), Organize her Digital photo Library (iPhoto), chops up Video Clips and makes little movies (iMovie), and surfs the web.

With the spyware and ad-aware alone I have had to play tech support for her more than once thanks to all of the spyware and ad-aware floating around for Windows comps. I myself am excited just about the fact that I will really not have to worry all that much about any of that stuff anymore. Me being selfish that is a perfect reason alone for her to make the switch.

I must say as a Mac man myself for the past 7 years, I personally thought the MacMini was a pretty stupid idea at first. After seeing now that in all actuality it is a perfect computer for someone such as my girlfriend, I really feel it was a great move on Apple's part.

She is still in the decision making process, but I keep pestering her to do it, so it really does look like it will work out, especially if we can sell her current comp to her brother who desperately needs a comp himself. The only negative thing is these things have an estimated ship time of 3-4 weeks.

glad to hear that the mac mini will be useful to some! i hope your girlfriend's company does very well. when i get married, maybe i will have to contact her to make my invites, could be difficult though, i live on canada's west coast :p

congrats on your GF switch :) (no pun intended). but it's really cool. i'm saving up for one of those myself.

btw, it's not "ad-aware". "ad-aware" is the name of a anti-adware program (hence "ad-aware" - "aware of ads"). but the malicious software in itself is called "adware" :). just a heads up

Thanks for the correction, but for the record I do know this, I myself am a Cross Platform user, and on my Windows comp I use "Ad-Ware" in combo with Spybot and the new Giant, oh I mean MS's app.

The reason for the misspell is I have Safari (I am on my Mac right now) set to "Check Spelling As I Type," so whenever I see a little red squiggly line I always just right click and choose what it suggests as the correct spelling, this way I seem like I know how to type really well, and for some reason when I try to write adaware (and there is the red squiggly line as I just typed that LOL), Safari recommends I should write it is ad-aware.

@ [hxc] PM when you are going take the plunge get married. Their stuff is really good and very much "hip" and for people who are younger. The beauty about the digital age is it could still be done via email and I am going to probably set up a nice web back-end interface for a client preview and all of that, although I do know women like a more hands on approach to those type of things. ;)

I really must admit, although it is totally correct, I named the topic that way because I thought it would be interesting to see how many people like you from the home page would think it meant something else!!!!

(Y) Sounds Good. Good Luck.

And Believe me my Man, I definitely hear you about about the finances.

Me and my girl are ready, it is just the finances are not. It really sucks things that money even reveals it's ugly head and plays a part in something like getting married. Unfortunately money does make the world go round, or at least thats what they say. ;)

Funny enough though, even with finances being rough, a thing like a MacMini which probably should not be purchased, will be. LOL Go Figure.

Lol yeah. I thought something else too. I thought she was like.. going to have surgery... if you know that I mean. :p

Guess I'm dirtier than you

ROFL.

Keep in mind my friend, Dirty minds think alike, and the Thread Name was definitely strategically chosen. :shifty: ;)

But yeah, honestly, all of you preverts that came in here are obviously dirtier than me. ;)

I have not seen a normal Mac related thread (not related to new hardware releases or the iPod at least) get this so many views so quickly, I don't think ever.

Shame on all of you preverts.

anyways.... congrats on the buy DL, I was thinking of buying one also :)

Thanks bro. (Y)

The purcahse was made today. :woot:

She also took my advice and got the "higher" model and added a stick of ram as well.

Should be here within 3-4 weeks it claims.

I am going to ease her in by setting her up a user account on my Powerbook, so she is not completely blown away by the Switch.

The only downside to this story is she is going to have to wait to play the only game she plays, and that is The Sims 2, which in my quick research I have not found any type of release date, so does anyone know if this is definitely coming out for the Mac? I have a feeling it is since all of the others have, but I would like to be able to add her that comfort and let her know it is. (Y)

    • Same Internet Archive seemed to grab the new version https://web.archive.org/web/20...d/Setup_MakeMKV_v1.18.4.exe Here's the link to an additional file it periodically downloads https://web.archive.org/web/20260213092148/https://www.makemkv.com/sdf.bin I think update's keys, etc. To manually trigger this update, put the sdf.bin file in the root of where the program is installed. When you launch the program it will pick up the file and import it. Typically put it here: C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV\sdf.bin
    • Windows 11 KB5094126, KB5093998 bugging out Office apps but it may not be Microsoft's fault by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. Although the tech giant did not acknowledge any major problems, some users online reported various issues ranging from OneDrive and Dropbox access problems, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. You can read about them in this dedicated piece. While there is still no confirmation about those problems from Microsoft the company has admitted to another bug which we did not report on. The tech giant has confirmed it has received reports of an issue in which certain third-party applications may be unable to launch Microsoft Office apps or open Office documents after installing the Patch Tuesday. This affects both Windows 11 as well as Windows 10. The company says the problem impacts a subset of applications that rely on OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) automation to communicate with Microsoft Office programs. According to Microsoft, affected scenarios involve third-party software attempting to open Office applications or documents from within their own interface. In such cases, the Office program may fail to launch altogether, or the requested document may not open. Oddly there may not be any error message, which probably makes the issue difficult to diagnose. The bug affects several Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other apps in the Microsoft Office suite when they are launched through the affected software. These include tax and accounting software such as CCH Engagement and Workpaper Manager, dental practice management solutions like Dentrix and Softdent, as well as the popular research and reference management tool Zotero. Microsoft adds that other applications using similar Office integration methods could also experience the same problematic behavior. To understand the issue it is important to look at OLE, the Microsoft technology involved. OLE allows different applications to work together and share data, while its Automation feature lets one program control another. Thus this enables third-party software to launch Microsoft Office apps, open documents, and perform tasks automatically without requiring users to switch between programs. Because many accounting, healthcare, research, and business applications rely on OLE automation to interact with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office apps, any disruption can break those workflows. As a result, affected software may be unable to open Office documents or launch Office applications even though the programs themselves continue to work normally. At the moment the company has not provided a permanent fix though it has confirmed that engineers are actively working on a resolution, which will be delivered through a future Windows update. As such additional details will be shared once more information becomes available. In the meantime, Microsoft recommends a simple workaround for affected users whic is to open the Office application or document directly rather than launching it through the third-party program. For enterprise customers and organizations managing larger deployments, Microsoft says an additional mitigation is available. Admins experiencing the problem on their managed devices are advised to contact Microsoft Support for business to obtain and apply the workaround.
