An unfortunate movie?

Recommended Posts

Not quite... I just watched the movie entitled "A series of unfortunate events" with my girlfriend last night and I shoukd say it was a ratter nice surprise. I was expecting this to be a blatant Tim Burton's style rip off, and in some degree it was a heavily inspired Burton-ish film, but very enjoyable in its own.

Without giving any spoilers I just can say that Carrey should experiment more with this kind of humor instead ot the vulgar and low technique displayed in films like Me, Myself & Irene for example. The shady layer works very well on him.

Bottom line: If you enjoy Tim Burton work then you are going to enjoy this just as much.

Burton is the master, i hacent seen anything that compares to his job, but this movie is a surprise...

Visually i like it a lot, jim carrey is going for a different direction of humor, which i liked a lot but the movie doesnt blow my head off, something is missing but is very fine...

En fin, me gusto pero no al grado de declararme un fan.

The same happened to me. But after thinking about it I think that the missing thing is only Burton.

?De donde eres?

i have never saw Burton's films, or at least i dont know that i saw them.

anyway i have found this movie pretty well, except gor Carry's performance. its pretty much the same in all his movies, and i am sick of it. he was fun at first but now its too monotonic ( as you have pointed out sanctified)

i liked the style of it too...colors used and such.

who directed it? and what is burton up to? who the heck is directing new batman?

Easy grasshooper!

A series of unfortunate events is directed by Brad Silberling

Burton is right now is directing the uocoming "Charlie and the chocolate factory" with (again) Jhonny Depp

The new Batman movie is directed by Christopher Nolan.

I've read the first 7 "A Series of Unfortunate events" books, but I'd only read the first three before seeing the film, and I have to say I think it was pretty well translated. The acting was pretty much spot on, and the look + feel of the film was pitch perfect. The only real gripe I had was the way the story (in the film) was set out - not enough Billy Connoly imo, and the fact that it jumped from book 1, then 2 +3, and then back again to book 1 (with a few differences in the story). But I'd still recommended it to anyone, and I'll certainly be getting it once it's available on DVD.

I saw this movie on a whim, it was really good. I honestly didn't see it being very Burton-esque except in theme, and maybe the end credits. The camera work and staging, IMO, was pretty unique.

And, Carrey is even better in Eternal Sunshine. Probably my favorite movie of last year.

I havent seen that movie yet. But I've heard good things about his performance in that flick.

In regards to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, you really definitely should see this movie.

I have a pretty good idea for the type of movies you like from your posts in the media room, and I am willing to say with 99% confidence you will not just like, but you will love, this movie. It was easily in my top 3 movies of the year 2004.

And thanks for the little review about A Series Of Unfortunate Events. Now that I know you like it, and me and you have always pretty much had the same exact taste in movies, I am definitely going to try and check it out in theaters...

Sorry boys, but in my opinion the film sucked. I like Jim Carey but he seems to play "Jim Carey" all the time. Even Billy Connolly couldn't rescue it as he was in it all of 5 minutes.

Emily Browning is pretty and I'm sure will go on to greater things.

On the flip side my eldest daughter, who's 11, thought it was great. Scared the crap out of my 7 year old though!

Well I agree, but sadly, movies like me, myself and irene are "hollywood" movies, as to Tim Burton has never been a Hollywood director, he makes his movies for the love of it, not for others...

when did the books come out first. i didnt even know anything about them, and there is a movie out already. well, being in a pariah doesnt help that much...

and one last question, is it comparable to the harry potter mania?

No, because this movie is actually good, unlike Harry Potter or the HP books.

About the books... I dont have an answer since I didnt know about them either.

    • I need to understand the rationale of not shipping all of these K2 improvements in a single update/release. It's giving "we will fix Windows 11 but no commitments". It seems to me that they just announce these improvements just to appease the community.
    • The term "RTM" is long gone starting with Windows 10. Every current release is a GA build. This is the result of MS making Windows as a Service (WaaS).
    • Looks like no official TBW rating, which should be a required listing in my opinion for sites like Amazon (hell, put it on the box too.)
