PlayBasseveryday
I have a 15 inch powerbook with 512 mb of ram via 2 SO DIMM's. I know how to replace the user friendly DIMM by unscrewing the 4 screws and so on...but can anyone help me with how to upgrade to something more than 256 mb on my internal chip? Also, I have applecare, would this void my warranty? Thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/274657-memory-upgrade-question/ Share on other sites
divinatum
the internal chip is probably soldered onto the motherboard. in which case your SOL. if it isnt soldered on, youll void your warranty because you'd have to open the unit. Gary_Player
Errr...You have a 15inch with only 1 user-replaceable RAM slot? Is it a tibook or something? Cuz the newer 15"s have 2 user-swappable slots. Swapping that 256 you can get to for a 512 will put you in the sweet spot. If you have a little more $$$ to blow throwing in a 1gig would be sweet too. apple_power
Hello there, If you have the older power book, the ram is indeed soldered on to the board, unless you are very good at soldering I would not chance it, it will void your warrenty, fullstop. At the end of the day, apple do advice on how to install ram, hooever there is no clear defination if this voids warrenty, at the end of the day if something goes wrong you simply remove the ram. PlayBasseveryday
thanks y'all, i have an aluminum pbook, 1.5ghz. I thought there was only 1 user swappable ram slots. So if i want to replace the internal ram could i take it to an apple service provider and have them do it without the loss of the warranty? Pilsbury
Upgrading the memory does not void the warranty. Regardless of who does it. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/274657-memory-upgrade-question/#findComment-585338392 Share on other sites
