my optical drives are jacked up

Recommended Posts

alright, here's the deal. my pioneer dvd-rom drive won't open. it's pretty lame, whenever i press the button, i hear these sounds like it's trying to open, but it won't. i know i can open it by inserting a paper clip into the hole, but i don't know if it'll fix it. also, i have a sony, so the drive is has a special cover, i guess that's what you call it. here's what it looks like:

so, if i can't fix it, how do i replace it with the cover?

and while we're on the subject of optical drives, my sony cd burner in the same computer randomly disappears from "my computer" and loses power, it happens all the time. it works when i boot, but after a while it just disappears on its own and stops working. is this problem caused by the psu?

The power supplys in those computers were absolute sh*t. The only problem is that they arent standard size, they are small rectangular and a pain in the ass to find replacements for (unless you wanna buy another crappy one from sony) also if you replace the PSU theres a chance that it will give you a boot error that you have to bypass when booting the computer (another pain) THIS IS WHY I HATE SONY. If you are wondering, i have the same computer, and i remember about a year ago i put a new burner in it and replaced that front bezel, im gonna try and find out how i did it and post it here when i do.
