Gamecube disc read errors

I've been having ocasional issues playing brand-new games such as RE4 and Metroid Prime 2, where when loading something, I get a disc read error (which in some cases I solve just opening and closing the cover, but it's a hassle). Also, I hear weird noises whenever I'm playing them, like clicks and stuff from the console when for example accesing the inventory in RE4.

I wonder if any of you guys have had this issue before. Could the lens just be dirty, or does my gamecube has a problem? Any definitive solutions you know of? Btw, I've had my gcn since Christmas 2002, and started to notice the problems about 2 months ago, and I always take good care of my console.

Well clicking and stuff is normal when loading data.

As for why these games are causing errors they both are almost constantly loading data off the disc, if the laser is starting to go out of alignment or starting to lose focus these games will be most likely to have a problem with it.

yeah once in awhile... a long while... ill get a read error in the middle of a game. usually only when its loading another scene though.

Can't say I've ever had this problem. However you GCN is a little older than mine, hope it doesn't happen to mine :cry:

I've had a GC since Christmas '02, and I can honestly say I have never had this problem.

I remember that back in the PS1 days, ppl would play their consoles on the side, wich suposedly took off some of the weight to the motor and ran faster and without problems, might try this if some errors still ocur.

I've NEVER heard of a Gamecube having ANY problems of ANY kind. I've had mine since day one, and it's works perfectly.

Thats funny, because I heard of plenty (dre's), back when I had a gamecube.

I've had a cube since the day it was released back in 2001. I havent had any problems with it at all. The only time there was a read error, it was because the game i rented was scratched to hell.

ive had my cube since xmas 01 and never had an error. try playing the games in question on a friends cube.

That happened to mine not too long ago after a few months of no use. I don't know exactly what causes it, but I wouldn't worry about it.
