Good 2 Desktop Speaker (w Subwoofer) Setup

Recommended Posts

Basically I am looking for a good 2 Desktop Speaker Setup.

technically it would be considered a 3 piece, because I do want a Subwoofer as well.

I currently have a set of Altec Lansing 5.1 speakers, but there are 2 reasons I want to go 2 speaker set up for now, and use the 5.1's for down the road..

Reason # 1 - About to Use A KVm Switch

I just got a KVM switch that lets you also share speakers, only 2 desktop speakers though, as well as a Keyboard and Mouse among 2 computers, so I would like to do that.

Reason # 2 - Very Limited Space Right Now

I do not get to really enjoy the true surround sound right now anyway. The way it is setup right now, and there is no way around it thanks to limited space, is my speakers are all on my desktop, so I do not have the rear speakers behind me, cannot set it up this way because of limited space, so not only will I be able to use 2 desktop speakers with my KVM switch, but I will also clear some space on my desk to itself, space I could use for the KVM switch itself.

Criteria needed.

The only criteria I need is that the speakers connect to the comp using just one line.

This would make my life much easier, basically because the KVM switch only supports one line.

My budget is between $40-$80. Possibly a little more.

They do not need to be the best speakers in the world, just decent ones.

Headphone Jack.

When I game 50% of the time I am forced to wear headphones anyway since it is late at night and I live in an apartment complex, so a headphone jack easily located is definitely a good thing as well.

So I am looking for advice to see what other people like and or recommend out there.

Chances are I will order these speakers online, as that is where I will get the best price, so since I cannot hear them in person, I am looking to me fellow Neowin members for the advice.

My one comp has a plain Audigy 2, and my other comp uses onboard Soundstorm.

TIA,

DL

Logitech Z2300 - $99 Canadian

Harmon Kardon Creature - $130 Canadian.

Thre you go.

The 2300 faced an asswhooping when they were benchmarked from the Maximum PC staff, 5/10 :/

When the volume is turned all the way up they reported that the sound quality is horribly distorted. see for yourself these guys never let me down, and have been a reliable source of computer hardware information for me for years now.

The 2.1 set to get is the previous model the Logitech X-2200's there less than $35 bucks, and Rattle windows, with no distortion at all when the Bass levels and volume is turned all the way up. Trust me!!!

I'm tired of folks recommending the 2300's when they have no clue how horrible they were not improved over the previous model of 2.1's by Logitech. Just because its newer doesn't mean its better! Atleast for these particular items that is :/

Good luck and keep us updated man.! :fun:

OH yea they have a Headphone jack right on the main Sattelite speaker, im a huge Quake III fan and play a lot of Urbanterror. So i know the importance of an easy accesible jack to plug in my soup bowl sized Sony headphones

Thank you my brother. (Y) Your advice is always welcome and trusted, no doubt about that.

I will definitely keep you posted as to what happens.

And yeah, especially with a GF who complains when the Bass of any gun is rattling the apartment whenever I play games, the headphone jack is imperative. ;)

Edit::pinch:: the speakers im referring to are the X-220's not the 2200's

The 2300's and the 2200's i havent tested personally, But i DO still recommend the X-220's, there cheap, they got godlike(compared to theX-230's> ) amounts of bumble to em. and well.... there cheap:// with NO distortion whatsoever
