nivek7
I have a IBM Thinkpad a22p with svideo in. Is it possible to use my desktop on the laptop screen? I've tried but I can't seem to get it to work. :pinch: My desktop has a 9800pro video card. (It has video out I'm pretty sure) Thanks Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/276429-desktop-using-laptop-monitor/ Share on other sites
mrogers
Conceivably, yes, as long as your desktop card has S-Video out and you set it up to output on that. Are you SURE your laptop has video in? I've seen a lot of laptops with S-Video out, mine included, but I've never seen one with video in. If it actually does have video in, you'd probably be able to view the input signal through whatever VIVO software is provided with the drivers for the notebook's video card; you might be able to view it full screen, but you might be restricted to a window. Regardless, this would NOT be a very elegant solution and it's all contingent on your laptop having video in, which like I said I've never seen. nivek7
Yeah, it does have video-in http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss...cid=MIGR-4UVKVX Do you know where I can "switch" screens in the laptop? Also, how to I make my desktop "release" the image? I'm quite new at this. Thanks for your time. tkyoshi
You will have to use some sort of capture software to see the image. Also the video coming out would be converted to a TV signal so visual quality would be quite poor. Like I already stated, you don't switch inputs on the laptop; it has to be done through VIVO/video capture software, so you would see it in a window just like any other program running on your laptop. And the desktop doesn't "release" the signal, you have to tell it to to output on the SVideo port as a secondary monitor. You will have to use some sort of capture software to see the image. Also the video coming out would be converted to a TV signal so visual quality would be quite poor. 585359741[/snapback] And tkyoshi makes an excellent point about poor signal quality. Why can't you just use remote desktop? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/276429-desktop-using-laptop-monitor/#findComment-585361351 Share on other sites
