New Dilemma

Recommended Posts

Life just got tougher as I saw the new Powerbooks. Not only are they much better than before, but they are a bit cheaper as well. Therefore, I am now debating on whether I should get a Powerbook (preferrably a 15") or a Mac Mini.

Some pros and cons of each:

Powerbooks - portable, no need to buy accessories / bit expensive with APP

Mac Mini - small, cheap! / not portable (the actual Mac Mini is portable but the monitor, keyboard, etc), extra accessories needed

I don't know which is the better buy. Obviously I do not want to spend too much money, but would a cheap first Mac Mini be better than an expensive yet beautiful Powerbook or vice versa?

Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I agree with photo monkey...if you have the money go for the power book you will be happier with it in the long run. Look at me, I was about to purchase a mac mini (my first mac) but then I decided to purchase what I really wanted a power mac. Yeah it was like twice the amount of a mac mini, but I think in the long run I will be happy with my decision. So get what you want, not what is cheaper....of course within your price range.

Sounds like you got it planned out Rudy. If I really dig my powermac, I figure in a year or so I will get my wife a powerbook (if she likes the power mac) and possibly move away from windows totally. BTW Rudy I would be having fits if my mac wasn't coming in until the 15th, I can barely wait the 3 more days for my power mac. I did get my iwork '05 and APP today, how is that for a teaser???

Ben2004uk, my power mac is coming with iLife '04. You get a "coupon" to get iLife '05 for $19.00 US, that you must then send off to Apple and wait again to get '05. That was the only thing that irritated me about my power mac purchase. I don't know what they will give you with your iBook.

That sucks that you have to wait that long, I feel your pain. Hope it all works out for you.

It also adds new cleaners (including a DNS cache cleaner, Claude Code, and Visual Studio Code forks), support for multiple Chrome and Edge profiles, new deep scan options for developer directories like node_modules and venv, and safer, faster file shredding. All Platforms Added cleaners for Claude Code, DNS cache, and many Visual Studio Code forks. Added support for multiple Chrome and Edge profiles. Chrome can now clean downloaded AI models. Deep Scan can optionally remove venv, __pycache__, node_modules, and .angular directories. Deep Scan is faster by skipping directories on the keep list. File shredding is safer, faster, and leaves fewer recoverable traces. Improved handling of cookies, symlinks, Unicode filenames, external processes, and configuration files. Improved Expert Mode warnings and long warning dialogs. Fixed crashes related to cleaner detection, invalid Unicode, and malformed cleaner data. Clipboard is now cleared automatically after shredding files via paste operations. Linux Added AppImage support. • DriversCloud 12.1.6 by Razvan Serea With DriversCloud (formerly My-Config.com), you can explore your computer easily, safely and free. The application quickly scans your PC and identifies the hardware and software components. DriversCloud then establishes a list of the different drivers compatible with your OS and hardware. Download the drivers needed for the proper functioning of your computer. To detect your drivers, DriversCloud also displays a detailed summary of your hardware and software configuration, analyzes your BSOD, monitors in real-time your PC voltages and temperatures and lets you share your configuration online. Once the hardware components have been detected, you will be able to obtain with just a few clicks the latest drivers corresponding to the identified hardware. You can record your configuration on the site for free, and can get the corresponding URL to post the configuration to technical forums, e-mail and social networks. You can also download the detection result (the configuration) as a PDF file. To protect the user's privacy and data confidentiality, a 4-level confidentiality system was created that filters the XML marks and gives control to the user. The default level can be modified in the preferences. Using the maximum level will prevent the user from publishing his configuration and generating a corresponding PDF file. In non-connected mode, each XML configuration is stored on the server for one day (for practical reasons). However, you are given the opportunity to manually delete it. Created in 2004, and continually improved, My-Config.com has established itself on the web as a free service to PC users running Windows and Linux operating systems. The service is designed to work with the most common Internet browsers (Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari).
