how much is your house worth

edit.. nvm

i guess its where you live and the standard of living.. here in cali my family is living "comfortabley" but if we were to move to nebraska or massachusetts with the money THEY have we'd be filthy rich.

edit:

the money my parents have, they never give me ****, so i'm poor as hell, i only look rich.

Erm.... Mass. is uber expensive

about $350,000 here.

Parents house:

Bought for ?250,000 in 1980

Since then extended front room

Added huge backroom

Only 3 bedrooms

2 Toilet/Bathrooms now

Estemated price now ?700,000

The area we live in is quite quiet. Although it is/was rough and we have a lot of drug dealers on the area (not you usual street corner dealers, but people who have good jobs and also make a mint on dealing <just arent very good at hiding the fact>) the houses go for quite a bit as is.

I think the price is also better because you are 10 minutes walk from the town and 5 minutes walk from train station. The way it is situated means you only hear the trains in far distance in the summer.

I think house prices will drop soon though as they are building more and more houses here and squeezing them in anywhere they can.

?450,000 ... extension + prices rocketing in Letchwroth The World's First Garden City:DD

(5 bedroom, 2 bathroom)

Letchworth is a lovely place to live, I have family and friends of the family there, two doctors that have a house that is probably worth around ?600k I'd imagine.

I live in Luton, so as you can imagine, not such a nice growth rate for our housing prices. Houses on my road valued recently between ?200-230k

3 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom

May I add that house prices in the UK are ridiculous. If you are 12 you might as well start saving now for a house. I'm at Uni now and I can't see myself owning a house any further south than Milton Keynes for at least 10 more years.

4 shure

highly succesful ppl usually dont boast

what is more important  is assets compared to liabilities.

a lot of people are far too concerned with appearance rather than substance.

In my city there are a lot of people morgaged to the max to cover living in this city(house, furnishings, the right cars, the right clothing, etc). West Van is my home, and I love it, but some day I will probably move away permimantly because it just is rediculous. To know what I mean, a "shoebox" condo (the cheapest form of housing) in west van is more than $200,000. They say that (an urban legend if you will) that some seniors in west van eat catfood becuase by the time their ever climbing property taxes are paid, their pensions are drained.

Maybe I will move to Victoria (not much cheaper).

Bought my home 2 years ago for 112,000. Selling at the end of this year for around 128,000. Not bad 2 year rate of return.

Don't forget real estate fees, moving expenses and closing costs. That will take away half the profit right there.

this better?

4 beddroom, 3 baths, 3,200 sq ft.

$828,000

aparment..uber small 1 bedroom, 1 bath room, no utilities paid.

$1,000 per month

4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1,515  sq ft

$628,990

were you live sounds very similar to where I live. Land is so valuable here $600,00 can buy you a ****ty old cabin-like house.

The only good is in selling and moving away for good to a cheaper locale. (cash out)

Location has a heck of a lot to do with it. Last year about June we bought a house for my mother-in-law , just 8 blocks from us, with a 50' x 120' lot and detached garage. It was part of an estate, it had been owned by a 94 year old woman. It is small, 2 bedroom, new utilities and windows and we offered $55,000 US cash and the people jumped on it. They started out at $79,900. My house was bought for $29,000 US in 1978 and would sell for about $100,000 in this tough market here...lots of people selling, it is a buyers market. My bro-in-law who is in California and his wife work for Cisco and make big bucks, but won't again buy a house out there. They had one built and sold it in 6 months and made $150,000. That is crazy, making $50,000 more than what my house is worth in Michigan. They say my house would be worth $1Million in Cali and the MIL's small place worth $750,000. To me that is insane. The BIL and his wife are transferring to another state in a couple weeks and they found a 3200 sq. ft. place for $250,000. They said it would be $2 Million near San Jose, where they are now. I don't see how people can survive in Cali.

Side note...I worked for a company that built a high tech assembly line for Apple computer about 12 years ago and our guys went out to California to install it, which took 6 weeks. They were going broke out there, the travel pay given to them was not close to enough. The expanse money had been enough everywhere else in the US where we installed a line. We'd get money for expenses, plus a travel bonus (which was not to be spent on the road) besides our regular pay. Those guys went through their expense money, travel bonus and were dipping into their regular pay. That had a lot of POed wives back at home when they didn't get a whole check to pay bills back home. We quit taking work headed for California.

Yea i know exactly how you feel. I live in North Van, in the "upper class, almost west van" area. (West Van and North Van are right next to eachother for those who dont know the area) Its sad, because i remember in high school some kids were like, "What, your house is only worth 600,000? You're soo poor!" Its stupid around here, and also sad knowing that by the time i move out i wont even be able to afford a small apartment without a $60,000+ salary
