Mods can move this to a more appropriate section, but I didn't know if I should put it in Hardware, Drivers, Software or what, so I just put it in GD.

I know of RealOne player's ability and Sony's own software, but is there some other software out there that I can use to get tracks onto my MiniDisc player? It's NetMD capable, so it uses the USB port. I don't mind if I have to install the Sony software for the drivers, but the software is absolute crap and I don't want to deal with RealOne for any reason if I can avoid it.

Also, has anyone worked out a way to get the tracks off of the minidiscs that you've recorded yourself yet, or is that still not possible (besides analog recording)? Are there card readers for Minidiscs to install directly into your computer?

I actually have never heard of Sonicstage before. It didn't come with my player and I don't think even available at the time. It seems that it can take recorded tracks from a Vaio and put them on CD, which is what I want to be able to do with my MD player. Does it work for MD as well? I have a MZ-N707.

Simple burner is the best way to transfer songs in my experience. The only limitation is that it does CDs, not your mp3 files. To get around this, get nero and make a CD with your mp3 tracks and then 'burn' the CD to an image. Mount the image and simple burner will think it's a CD and copy the tracks over.

There's really no other options than that.

To be honest, get a different MP3 player. I put up with Sony's proprietary crap for long enough. I ended up using Real Player. After 2 years of using RP, I found the NetMD was too much of a pain to update. I bought a Flash based MP3 player w/ 128 MB ram and a 512 MB add-on.

Couldn't be happier. No more *anything* Sony for me.

I got Open-MG with mine as well, and yes, it's crap.

I know I should just get an mp3 recorder with a good mic input, but I simply can't shell out $300 to get one right now. I bought this thing before mp3 players were really any worth while, and I'd like to get some good use out of it. Mostly I use it to record my own performances and practices for critiquing myself (I'm working on an MMA right now).

There are not much alternatives out there. They are are proprietary and crap. You have to find the one that is the least crap.

Sonicstage 2 _at_least_ doesn't have the 3 upload limit but the interface is still horrible.

when I had a NetMD (viva iPod!), I'd do the Nero Trick that mx3 explained.

That's a trick I learned at Minidisc T-Board, a forum dedicated to people and fans using Sony products. Great forum for minidisc information or articles related to Sony.

Only inconvenience with the "Nero Trick" is that you'll have to rename your tracks but in the end, you have what you wanted and it always works.

    • Geez, this is dumb. I use my laptop sometimes in the dark when doing astrophotography to control my astro-PC... this explains why I have to keep entering my PIN when logging back in. So stupid. I can't see the keyboard in the dark, and I can't have lights everywhere to light it up because everything is very light sensitive (including my eyes!).
    • Naturally. I don't care about brand loyalty at all as it's all about price/performance/reliability etc (even what RejZoR said below is a great point to). basically bang-for-the-buck. because at the end of the day... one wants the cheapest possible price to maintain a certain minimum level of performance (or thereabouts). because generally after a certain point with CPU and GPU's the price starts to sky rocket without that much difference in performance where it really matters. p.s. historically I have bought more Intel CPU's and NVIDIA GPU's but I have had some AMD CPU's and one AMD GPU.
    • Both of these companies as well as Qualcomm and Apple need competition. Otherwise, they just coast. I don't prefer macOS, though I like some of Apple's hardware, but if anyone needs competition, it is Apple. Their prices are already outrageous and they need to have a reason to produce good hardware and at least keep prices remotely reasonable. (It is criminal what they charge for RAM upgrades especially.) Qualcomm needs to push AMD and Intel not to be so sloppy with the performance/efficiency aspect. Granted, AMD has been doing quite well in this respect considering they are not an ARM architecture. I personally want to have more options that truly compete with Macbook Air and Macbook Pro's on the Windows side. It is difficult to achieve what Apple does since they control the entire stack and that is fundamentally different for Windows PCs other than maybe Microsoft Surface PCs.
    • I would not mind paying 120 up to 150 dollars in this economy value of the dollar currency if their video game is quite breathtaking and excellent use of my hard earned work money. I think people need to appreciate all the effort workers and time that goes into excellent and worthy video games. Now if only the publishers and companies behind the video games would share the love with the developers those at the bottom of work making such games happen as in increase their money accounts and give them a more richer life that I wish would have happened . But how companies have bad reputation of being $$$ profit greedy I feel sad if there are any developers that feel unappreciated as in no real compensation for all the hours of work they put into a blockbuster hit . Have a great day everyone . Thank you developers engineers and programmers that make superb video games happen . You have my thanksgiving and I hope you really really appreciate my words . With you all about this
