Trying to sync pda via irda

Recommended Posts

Im having problems trying to set up a partnership with my pda, i have Activesync installedd, i open activesync settings on pda, click "connect via IR...", i then click get connected on the PC. It recognises that theres an IR connection and plays the connected sound, but on the pda it just sits at "User Authenticated" then timesout.

Ive tried uninstalling both usb ir and active sync, resetting the pda to no avail.

PDA: Audiovox PPC4100 running Windows Mobile 2003

Activesync: 3.7.1 and ive also tried 3.8

IR: Kingsun SF-620 USB Infrared Adapter.

Any clues?

Managed to get it to connect to activesync by lowering the speed, it connects but they activesync locks up. If i end process it comes up with the partnership wizard, i think thats whats making activesync lock, but if i try to partner the device it just comes up with an error because i already ended the task.

Frustrating.

dont forget though, irda is much slower than serial/USB/Bluetooth, activesync might not be locked up, but instead waiting for data to be sent/received. I remember trying it on my old HP jornada. Now that I have an iPAQ 2210, I didnt think it was worth all the hassle of setting it all up.

You could try increasing the speed on both the irda device on your PC, and the PDA, but make sure the speeds are the same on both, otherwise one will time out when waiting for the other.

as electric demon said IRDA is so slow I remember trying to do it with my old h1910 so slow would take ages to transfer a 3mb mp3. (and

I'm talking mins!). Its probably not even worth the trouble trying to setup IRDA mate...

I suspect you are doing this to get some sort of wireless ability with your PDA when syncing files but I mean it needs a clear line of sight and the range is so low I would just say use the USB sync cable. I use WiFi to sync my PDA and that's only marginally slower then USB cradle (rx3715 user)

It just locks up and after a few minutes the PDA will disconnect itself probably because its not receiving anything.

Its under a year old but its an American brand, which means shipping it all the way back to the states. I dont think they support that.

The baud rate on both is set at 57600 at the minute, if i try to enable 115,200 it doesnt get as far as connecting to activesync, it just timesout at "User Authenticated" screen on pda

    • Consumer Reports is flat out wrong. Wouldn't be the first time it's a fact that when you have more moving parts, you have more room for failure. Less points of failure when all you replace on an EV is the tires and the wipers.
