Alternatives to crap MS Frontpage?

Question

Hello,

I have someone here who is VERY fustrated - their MS Frontpage 2003 software keeps locking up, and this is a VERY powerful computer.

AMD Athlon FX 55

ASUS A8N SLI MB

Dual ASUS 6800 GT 256MB DDR video cards

4GB DDR RAM

200GB HDD Seagate SATA

Everytime Frontpage is opened up, and a page is opened in navigation - it completely freezes - and tech support is totally useless.

This person is completely fed up with Microsoft and such 'inferior' software, and they want to purchase something that actually works properly.

Any ideas??

Regards,

Brian

By the tone of your post I'm assuming this "person" is you ;).

Frontpage is well known to screw up people's HTML code with it's own code. If you are having problems with it locking up, try reinstalling it. If that doesn't work, I guarentee you that there is something on that powerful machine that is screwing with it (many people use Frontpage without any problem).

An alternative for a WYSIWYG HTML editor is Dreamweaver.

what difference does it make?

dreamweaver is probably the best one out there. the one in mozilla is about as powerful as frontpage and its free.

Dreamweaver by a country mile! The MS Product is junk! As for ease of use, you or the other person will have to learn it, thats all. It is not that easy to use in the begining, but you will get the hang of things pretty fast!

I agree with you. Dreamweaver is too expensive for the home user. I know how to use front page, have found nothing wrong with it's ease of use.

I would mention also, Photoimpact from ulead.com has a good webpage builder.

I agree. Dreamweaver is pretty much the best out there. Nvu is not bad for a free editor.

If you can, try getting Dreamweaver from someone who can get a discount. In the University here, I can get Studio MX2004 for the equivalent of US$36.

Thank you everyone for the replies, my friend agrees with everyone, MS FP IS junk!

They are going with Dreamweaver - I personally have used the 30 trial version, and its actually more powerful and stable than FP!

Adobe GoLive is excellent too, as others have told me in either the forum or PM, FP is decent to learn web development, but for advanced use, FP doesnt cut it!

Thanks again,

Brian
