NOTICE:

This project is closed, Dayle Rees kicked me out of the project because he wouldnt accept that he is just a coder, he wanted the title of "creator of Gmessenger/Nexus" because he coded the base engine, and that my graphics had no value at all.

NOTICE: msn wave 11 was used as a co-inspiration aswell as the ipod modern look, which was the main one/

GMessenger

EDIT

This is the newest update:

newgmess.jpg

older:

GMessenger is an alternative to MSN Messenger that myself (GHL) and some friends have been working on,

It will have all the loved features of MSN Messenger and more, without the annoying advertisments etc.

It is now in a usable build so we thought we should show Neowin.net what it's like:

This is the latest build, 0.5ALPHA:

GMessenger0.jpg

Everything you see in this image is usable, we have working status messages even a fully usable tiled contact list,

compatability between MSN Messenger an GMessenger is great, its at a stage where i can use GMessenger to talk properly to any contact.

This is the concept image that I created at the beginning of the project:

concept.jpg

Once we perfect the contact window we will start work on the UI of the chat window, currently the chat window is quite plain, but it works perfectly.

Now a word from some of the developers:

GHL:

A few months back I created some concept artwork for what i thought MSN Messenger should look like,

After a few versions of the concept, I decided that it might be a good idea to infact create my own messenger!

I searched for a coder for quite some time I eventually gave up,

A few months later dayle contacted me on MSN saying he could help me create GMessenger!

We planned the project and got some other developers and started to make GMessenger.

He worked non-stop on his code while me and Menge worked on changing my original concept ideas, once we agree'd, I got to work on the first proper image of what we were creating, after alot of work we came to a final design, and Dayle went ahead coding it all together.

- GHL.

Dayle:

When I first started coding this app it was a bot for the MSN messenger network, for a CS site i used to visit.

Then it changed to become this, and i think i prefer this :D

The app itself is written in VB.NET, and this was my first project using .NET as i am a traditional VB6 user.

I would like to thank, GHL for the graphics, Menge for coding advice and design help, John for protocol tips, and Jromo for positive responses :D.

Tech Specs - Build 0.5 ALPHA ( Current Build )

Contact List uses tiles contacts system, and both this list and top info pane which I have called 'MyBox' are drawn, and anti aliased for smooootheness :).

IM Windows have been made but have a few bugs, and are using an old 'theme' that we have changed now ( hence not in screenshot ).

Things I will be working on next include :

Popups for users online and incoming messages.

Fixes to IM windows and skinning.

More and more bug fixes.

An ALPHA Release will come soon I hope :).

Thanks for taking the time to read my crap! ( hope GHL didnt bore you )

- Dayle Rees.

Expect regular updates on the progress of this program, and we are happy to recieve any constructive critisism you have to give.

Yes this program does use the .NET Framework and the framework will need to be installed on all systems that use it, but the framework is currently on windows update so if your XP is up to date you should be able to run this :).

Filesize... pretty big when unzipped, but zipped its like 40k kinda odd, anyway as for MEM usage, its a bit of a whopper at the moment, i need to make the rendering a little better, and the code atm is messy as **** so lets hope it gets better. :)

wow thanks for all the positive feedback:D

There will be a website soon enough, where we will have the updates first, but neowin will always be first other than that.

we are still in the alpha stages so no testing just yet, but eventually we will do testing. not too far off:)

    • Cooler Master MasterFrame 600 PC case is now 33% off on Amazon by Ivan Jenic The Cooler Master MasterFrame 600 is currently $109.99 on Amazon, down from its original $164.99 list price. That's 33% off and $55 saved on this premium aluminum mid-tower case with a modular design. If you're upgrading your PC case and want something that doesn't force you into a rigid layout, the MasterFrame 600 is worth a look. The case is built around the Cooler Master's FreeForm 2.0 platform, which lets you reconfigure the internal structure according to your hardware. Magnetic side panels allow for straightforward adjustments, and the case supports everything from Mini-ITX to E-ATX motherboards without compromise. There's also generous cooling headroom. Four pre-installed PWM fans handle airflow out of the box. GPU clearance goes up to 410mm, and the case supports radiators up to 420mm with room for three simultaneously. Truth be told, this might not be the prettiest case on the market, but it’s highly functional. The aluminum construction keeps the whole thing lightweight despite its size, and the finish looks noticeably better than the plastic mid-towers competing at this price point. If you want a serious, flexible case that prioritizes function over flashy aesthetics like RGB lighting, the MasterFrame 600 delivers at a reasonable price. • Your daily driver? Weird, seeing that you don't seem to understand how your own browser downloads and installs its updates. What you posted earlier is factually incorrect...
