NET has to be the worst platform ever for resource usage. I wrote a simple MP3 player in VB.NET and it used 26mb idle?!

You should read up on how the CLR handles memory management. The short story is that it's only using up that much memory because it's sitting there unused. I'll let you find out more about that on your own. :)

@NetRyder - yeah man i agree with you... im also a total .NET hater but this is what i started it in so ill continue lol, maybe change for a second version.

Hmmm dont think were gonna have enough BETA testers somehow ?_?

This SSL bug is really p*ssing me off... its kinda halting the progress to the rest of the client at the moment.

There will probably be a BETA build posted here when it gets to that stage so i wouldnt worry about missing it.

Thanks for all the interest tho, makes me feel less depresse:p:p

Yes ive seen many screenys of this application and its comeing along great, amazing to think that it all started from a IRC bot that i asked Dayle Rees to code for me when we were drunk at his house the other night hehe, and in a couple of days it expanded to Gmessenger.

To a previous post (cant be bothered to go all way back and quote) the ability to store messages offline like aim isnt possible i already asked Dayle and he said it wasnt compatible with current MSN protocol :( but i think it was intended.

Ohh shut up, this thing's a baby (kidding :) )! Dayle, you know PHP? If so, go for C. They really are the same thing (remove the $ for variables). The whiles, ifs, loops, etc are almost all the same. If you need help coding this app, contact me.

Thanks AresXP ill keep you in mind, i chose VB because the design of forms etc is a lot easier, maybe in the future tho :)

Alvin --> that could be implemented, but when both users are online i dont see the point, because the user could just type what they said anyway :p

Thanks for thoughts guys.

Oh heres some advice if your creating a logo.

Please dont relate it to G messenger, ive had some nice logos from people with G's in them but were dropping the name eventually.

Please keep letters etc out of the logo... we also want something simple but effective that would sit nicely at the top of the window.

As for names be imaginative :) i mean miranda is quite different :p

Please keep the logos and name ideas coming tho! thanks a lot ppl!! ( still slaving away trying to fix SSL problem )

i was thinking of making color overlays like what msn currently has, where u can add a color tint to the window.... but i guess we'll see eh :)

VB = resourcehog FACT im just hoping once i clear up the code, make a few bits more efficient and load it with eyecandy it will still be nicer to use

I think this is a really cool concept! But if you really want people to use it, you'll have to make it better than the current MSN Messenger. So I'd say, don't do the color overlay thing, but a color changer. The way I see it now, you're also going for the nice look. And everyone knows how ugly the color overlay is on MSN. The tint thing just doesn't really work. But well, okay, that's just my point of view...

Btw, if you need more testers, count me in! :p This project is really cool, and I hope you keep it up, and it doesn't end up like Aerobrowser did... :p (no offence to the Aerobrowser crew ;))

*stamps on the floor frantically*

Well the bug got me a bit down... and my designer signed off for the night leaving me without a log in window... so i did what any other neowiner would do and fired up 'Ye Olde Photoshope'.

Threw this together quickly, u guys think its okay?

Gonna take this opertunity to plug some bands that arent as well known as they should be (im a MASSIVE music fan)

I thought so too :-P

Good job guys, but I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Google swallows up your program

well im gonna get to sleep, gonna code that login windows 2moro, tidy up my code a bit... attempt to fix that SSL bug still... kill the stupid easy to fix contact list bug. Maybe implement some kind of design to the IM windows... then ill have a little play around with the protocol.

Thanks for all the postivite posts today, theyve kept me going!

Nite!

    • Yes for me, I installed 'old calculator' (Windows 7 calculator) in its place since it is more useful to me. I think paint is the only one I left installed
    • eh I'll wait for the June 2026 MVS ISO downloads which should be coming out next Tuesday June 16 and possibly contain build 8655 instead of 8653
