 I was just thinking, if people make their own skins because the program is skinable wouldn't designing the skin for future versions be useless? Because I was thinking like MSN is actually a huge thing when the look is changed but if it's fully skinable people wouldn't care about the original skin and just go download some other skin.

You're not 100% correct. I'm sorry but I have to challenge your opinion.

I use Winamp and there are tons of skins out for Winamp but no matter what, I keep coming back to the original skin.

Well... I never saw pic ;)

:p below...

anyhow, the reason that I havnt released any IM window pictures yet is because im not 100% happy with them, menge is doing a good job however trying to get them looking nice, and reason im not releasing anything yet is, at the moment theres a few stupid little annoying to fix bugs that would annoy anyone, id rather not release something that might put people off my project, i hope you can understand that.

post-83131-1108483496.jpg

lol

Right mission statement for today :

Theres this stupid little glitch where when you press enter in an IM window ( to send a message ) it highlights the conversation window, to scroll it to the bottom. VERY STUPID cos it interupts your typing of the next message if your like me... but none the less its a pointless little problem, and i hate it so much.... also gonna fix contact list cacheing so big contacts lists.

THEN if i have time im gonna fix the SSL bug a cheesy way for now :p

Gonna make a C# program ( yeh that will be interesting :\ ) that works out the SSL ticket and then gives it back to my program, so the other program will only run for like 2 seconds but it means ill be able to release the alpha a bit sooner.

Oh id also like to let you know, remember a while ago i told you guys that I was gonna remove the fancy contact list and put a treeview in for now, well thats been done, it will stay there, probably till after the alpha giving me some time to recode the new style contact list... i tried to make the treeview fit into the design as much as possible.... but its never gonna be as pretty as the tiles lol.

Well my hands not hurting now so im gonna get on with that.

Thanks some nice ideas there.

Right guys im considering a full rewrite, im just not happy with it right now :( after changing my IM windows yesterday Rus just tried it now and noticed the memory usage lingering at 70MB......... yes... im about as happy about that as you are...

Im sure a full rewrite would do some good, right new ive been rushing it to get a good alpha out to you guys, but what i really need to do is, a recode taking my time to make sure everything is right.

What do u guys think about this... also if i do a full rewrite it will probably be in C#

DayleRees: As long as you don't abandon us and leave us with more abandonware like other projects, I'm happy. You guys JUST annonced this project and everything. With MSN Messenger, it takes something like a year per major release. You are trying to do it in a couple of months. I applaud your work and dedication.

Do whatever it takes dude. I'll be a fan until it'e released.

EDIT: Minirostat: I like the dove. It's interesting concept.

ok dayles.. whatever u do dont abondon it. i know u giving lots of time (and wrist-pains) into this proj but trust me . lots of neowin will rightaway donate something as a thanx to u.

C# is the perfect lang cording to me for messenger coding ( i thought thats wht u were using ).

hehe nice.. good work unknown.

BTW what a coincedence.. i just did same blog setup for blog-site hosted on free host provider with 3 gb bandwith per month. :D

Nah im using VB.net , i might not move to C# tho, i had a quick go and quickly became lost... moving from VB --> VB.net was a big step for me, not sure if I'm ready to take the next leap... i also need to update my VS.net badly, im using the 2002 builds called Visual Studio.net i need to upgrade to Visual Studio 2003

Until something other than a few screenshots (based on a news story here at Neowin) surface I will call this vaporware. I don't mean to put a downer on things but hugely doubt this will turn into a working Messenger client.

585477071[/snapback]

Like almost any project that started on neowin.....

The "I might need to recode it all" remarks only feed the fear that this thing will never see the surface. I'm not convinced either....

A few people on Neowin have used the client, its at a working point, but the thing is its not at a point where i feel that users would become lost inside the bugs in the application. Its at a developer usage state, things like the caption buttons havnt yet been coded because I have been making IM windows etc.

I understand completely that you cannot trust a program from only screenshots, however a few of neowins users have tried this, not including GHL : KoL , Rus Dzanmahmudov.

My only fears are that my platform VB.net might affect the memory usage etc of this application greatly... and that my lack of extensive programming experience might lead to some difficulty in bug fixing, I am however trying my best to overcome all of these barriers, and continue with my work. My other fear is getting all my college work in on time :p.

I understand completely what you mean though creamhackered, and I hope that when im comfortable with releasing an alpha that it will change your mind. :) thanks for your thoughts.

DDM has sensibly convinced me that ive been working on Nexus too hard lately and should take a little breather, hes probably right... havnt been getting much sleep and havent been out since like last week -.-, so gonna meet up with him and have a few pints and chill a bit tonight... therefore no progress tonight sorry.. its dayle time.

Rus and unknown are gonna post some screenies of them using the app maybe it will make my app a little more believable i hope. Thanks for feedback!

    • When will the Photos app be updated to remember the window size and position when reopened? They addressed this issue in a 2024 version of the app (though I can't recall the build number). Unfortunately, after that specific version, the problem persists! Please prioritise this fix in your K2 schedule. Additionally, the Snipping Tool has lost the ability to capture the Windows Taskbar starting from the 2024 version!
    • Same, never saw it on Android or iOS. Guess only some people got it *shrugs*
    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.
