guys, i want to know which laptop would be a perfect fit for my college. I will do Computer Science as my major. I need some ideas on which model would be good for me from DELL.

doesnt matter, they tend to label the Centrino as business market because of its wireless capabilities and long battery life / mobility. If youre not gonna use it as a gaming machine it will be just fine, should last you all through college.

I have a 600m. I love it. I will say this: get enough power in your machine, you'll probably need it if you don't have a desktop to compensate.

Any particular reason you are limiting yourself only to dell? You can always consider something from HP/Compaq (wow did that just come out of my mouth, eeewww), Toshiba, Sony? Or some sort of apple solution?

Good point, depending on your budget, you can get something cool from Alienware, VoodooPC, or FalconNW.

My question is how do you know so much about programming and so little about computers, and consumer electronics ?? LOL J/K

My little sister is the same way, she makes $80,000 a year as a systems analyst and calls me to help her fix her machine - I know the 2 fields are worlds apart

this is my guess, but its better to get the business models from dell. They usually test new systems on the "home" customers and when it does well, then they sell it to "business" customers.

I think thats stupit bc home user noobs that buy dells look at HD spce and buy the biggest one, buissness buy the best proc.

1GB :) and was hopeing to get the 2.13GHZ 533FSB cheap :D But I might weight and see if a bigger hardrive comes out with a higher rpm

Laptops HDD are usually 4200RPM (sometimes slower) and the harddrive is the slowest thing in a computer. If you have the ability to get a faster RPM laptop HDD. DO IT!.

At least 5400RPM.

The 7200RPM laptop drive that dell offers ALSO HAS 8MB CACHE.
