Hi,

I noticed that while trying to replace .png files in a program in resource hacker, that i cannot save the exe... i have tried deleting the resource, and then adding it as a new one, but even that doesnt work...

however, it seems to work perfectly well when replacing icons, cursors, and strings... could it be my computer? (i don't think so but sometimes you just can't tell... :/)

is there a special way of saving pngs i should use?

or a newer version of resource hacker?

thanks in advance!

ResHacker can't handle png's that way...

here is a workaround if you don't have ResTuner (not freeware though but can preview .png's)

> expand in the tree view of ResHacker the png you wish to change

> once there, go to the menu and:

> Action/Save Resource as a binary file/save as "something".png

> edit the file as you want

> in ResHacker again and in the same file you saved, go to the menu and:

> Action/Replace other Resource/Open file with new resource

> Resource Type: PNG

> Resource Name: the one that is indicated on the parent rsc folder

> Resource Language: *your language code* English is 1033 for instance

> Replace

I assume you know the rest...

I right click on the resource, replace with a new png file, then

> Resource Type: PNG

> Resource Name: the one that is indicated on the parent rsc folder

> Resource Language: *your language code* English is 1033 for instance

> Replace

The error message your getting is because the app is invalid, i get that when i quit resource hacker straight away after clicking save, you have to give it some time to save it, or else you will have a corrupted exe.

resedit is quite good with png files.  you can even edit them directly.
