TheLegendOfMart
I have a few apps and games that require activesync to install. The usb port on my pda is knackared and the ir wont work with my usb irda. So i was wondering if there was any way of copying it to a storage card and installing that way? exobot
Depends if it install through a .cab file, or whether it's a windows .exe which uses ActiveSync to install with it. If it's a .cab, or a PPC compatible .exe then that should work - if it uses ActiveSync or is a Windows .exe, it won't (afaik). Good luck :). ElGato
I would imagine all the Windows installer does is unpack a .CAB file to a temp local before copying to PDA to execute. Maybe you could start the install and snaffle it and copy it to the card. C:Amie
Sometimes you can extract the files without having ActiveSync installed, as outlined here: http://www.hpcfactor.com/support/cesd/s/0049.asp If the installer is a MSI, then you can't break through it, but if it's just a exe wrapped zip file you can often get to the goodies. Oh and if your Ir isn't playing ball, have a look at the troubleshooting suggestion here: http://www.hpcfactor.com/support/cesd/c/0017.asp Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/287561-installing-programs-without-activesync/#findComment-585505740 Share on other sites

TheLegendOfMart
Thanks, i still cant get IR port working but the other article was a huge help. When i run the setup it copies the cab file to activesync folder for when i run the program, i can just put my sdcard into reader and copy the cab files over and stick it in my pda. Thanks again Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/287561-installing-programs-without-activesync/#findComment-585507148 Share on other sites
