Whenever I've edited the shell32 file in the past, I've just changed each icon using the existing icon's sizes (very often 16x16 up to 48x48).

What I'm wondering, for you experts...is if you put in an icon with other sizes (up to 128), will they work? Or does this cause any problems? I've got all my icons extracted, sitting on my desktop, ready to do a new shell32, and would rather ask this and save time, than do it all for nothing.

Will xp take advantage of the highter sizes? Or not? And does it cause problems.

THanks

The issue with larger icon sizes seems to be program specific because I completely re-did MY shell32 and got rid of ALL 16bit and 256bit icons, replacing them with icons up to 128x128. My shell32 is 23 mgs and i hav had NO, count them, NO issues.

I used Resource Hacker becaus it allows you to import ALL the icons in a package, no matter what the size.

As for those who say it wont display the 128x128 icons, I say, your wrong...mine does fine. It is Microangelo that has issues.
