external soundcard for mac mini?

i'm just thinking what kinds of external soundcards supporting 5.1 or 7.1 are out there for macs since i doubt creative makes any

there is a usb based external soundcard made by creative- but cant remember what it was called. and i think its 5.1 dolby as well.

Audigy 2 NX, its 7.1 i have it, works really good, you get more control over your sound with an external soundcard imho. Not sure if it works with Mac.

Miniumum System Requirements:

* Intel?, AMD or 100% compatible motherboard chipset

* Windows? 98SE, Me, 2000 SP3 or XP SP1

Creative Labs discontinued any support for Mac's a few years ago.

I believe their last Mac compatible product was "Sound Blaster Live for Macintosh"

hmm i have to buy separate cables for my inspire t7700 if i were to get a 7.1 soundcard i guess i'll see what my local apple centre has..

maybe i should consider getting those jbl creature instead of a sound card..

If you've already got the speakers, why not just get the soundcard?

hmm i guess i can use the input for the t7700 but then only 2 speakers would work since it doesn't have a decoder

Wait I'm still a little confused. If you have 7.1 speakers, and have a 7.1 sound card, what's the decoder needed for? Do you mean umpixing stereo signals over the the 7 speakers? Or am I just completely misunderstanding you.

yeah my 7.1 soundcard is only for pc.. the mac mini only has stereo output.. so if i want to use this current system i'll need an external soundcard for the mac mini

you should look at what m-audio has to offer thet "revolution 7.1 theatre". apperently it has poor drivers though

Another vote for the Sonica Theatre, great card, I've had no problems with the drivers.

oh man finally i got my mac mini! i made my parents go there right from the airport.. i'm typing this on it now.. looks like i got the 5400rpm seagate drive heh..
