You've tweaked your Firefox but have you ...

OMG!!

I went from 1.9 MB to 4.0 MB.

This really works. :)

In which test? To download a 1 MB file? That is totally inaccurate. That could have even been from the cache via your ISP's proxy or your local cache. Also the server load at the times you initiated the test. I seriously doubt that changing your settings would have doubled your speed.

Already tweaked.

Would be faster if I were not listen to 128kbps music, playing urban terror online (quake 3), downloading from irc at 103kbps atm and uploading at 20kbps. A third of my max upload btw.

That and its wireless and who knows what my brother is doing on his pc right now. Sure he is at least listen to music at 128kbps and playing urban terror. Sures hes in a few irc channel on enterthegame as well.

what ISP are you using in SC?

WTF?

I'm on 3mbit broadband, and all the speed test give me less than 1.5mbit.

Something must be screwed up with my setting. :(

You have to do a speed test that is close to you (geographically). If you go to DSL reports and look for a speed test that is close to you it will give you a much more accurate speed.

re-test without any tweaks and u will still get something different

to test this i first went to bandwith palace and then to pcpitstop right afterwards.

i tested bandwith palacefirst and got 2.5

then for pc pit stop i got 2.1

then i cleared my cache and cookies and did it again

i got 1.4 for bandwith

2304 kilobits per second pcpitstop

and agian..........

982 kilobits per second bandwith palace

1992 kilobits per second for pcpitstop

after that i can't do anymore of bandwith cause it says limit of 3 test per month per IP adress.

SO, in conclusion, these tests prove jack sh*t. the fact is you won't notice any diffrence from any tweaks out on the net. you may see a tiny boost while playing games, but that's it. they are all mostly adware and spyware anyways

but if you want to believe the complete strangers.............go ahead. i'll just sit back and wait for natural selection to kick in

Flaming really?

Please find the part where an insult is directed at you. Then you can call it flaming.

585799998[/snapback]

who else is the sarcasim pointed towards? the fact that you put /sarcasm there implies that in that situation i was an idiot for posting something so dumb

yes, i know that you didn't say that exactly, or even close to saying that, but you know as well as i that that's what the /sarcacsm was implying

otherwise, there was no point in posting it now was there?

    • Bluesky COO warns social media regulations could destroy competition from small startups by Paul Hill Fears that increasing government control of social media risks regulatory capture by the biggest social media firms were raised again recently. Bluesky’s chief operating officer said in an interview that social media bans for children and tighter regulations for social media firms risk creating a world where there are only a few social media platforms run by companies with the deepest pockets. Regulations on social media firms have been very lax since they appeared for mainstream users in the 2000’s. This gave Meta, Snapchat, and Google time to build up their user bases and get entrenched, with Meta being the most successful. Now that Meta has succeeded, it has been attempting regulatory capture. By pushing for more regulations of social media, Meta hopes to make it more difficult for rivals to challenge it. For its part, it doesn’t need to worry about the cost of regulation because it has a lot of money to spend, whereas startups do not. Speaking to CNBC, Rose Wang, Bluesky’s chief operating officer, said: “I support the protection and the safety of youth, the question that we have then is at what cost, because essentially what I’m scared of is in the long term, we’re headed to a world where there’s about three to five platforms, and extreme heavy regulation of those platforms, and basically the whole compliance teams of these platforms are 10 times the size of our entire team. So, basically, we’re living in a world where it’s almost impossible for smaller entrants to come in and build healthier spaces. These platforms have led to a place where the bottom line is the thing that drives what they do... so I understand why governments have to step in and regulate, because the platforms have done nothing right.” She said that while she is not against regulation, there needs to be more channels between the small to mid-sized players and regulators to help protect them. She says that big tech players, on the other hand, “who we know are circumventing regulation,” need to be regulated. Essentially, the Bluesky position is one of nuance, rather than absolutes. While Bluesky’s proposal may preserve competition in the social media space, it still doesn’t address the massive privacy implications these age verification measures introduce, such as handing over sensitive identity documents to access age-gated content.
