AionXn_
i was just wondering..do i HAVE to have iTunes to download songs onto the iPod shuffle? or am i able to just open My Computer and open it as if it was a disk drive (like most mp3 players) and...the battery, what battery does it use? topher1078
You need to have iTunes to upload music on to it. There may be some other third party solutions but I don't know what they are. But, you can still enable disk use to have the Shuffle show up as a drive to upload other files onto. macman87
Yes, you HAVE TO use iTunes. The iPod shuffle uses an standard Lithium Ion battery with 8 hours of battery life. (I've never actually run it down yet) A friend of mine is getting 19. They really under-estimated it with their 12 hours. chmsant
ultimately battery life depends on the quality of the songs, time, volume etc... if you are getting that kind of time the thats awesome!! SojIrOu
apple's becoming conservative with their battery times after the ipod mini.. the gen 4, ipod photo, ipod shuffle and new mini all run longer than stated.. the new mini managed to run for 26 hours (from ipodlounge) when apple only stated 18 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/293107-ipod-shuffle-song-adding/#findComment-585572709 Share on other sites
topher1078
Yeah, my iPod shuffle, which I got maybe the 1st of February has been great battery-wise. I've used it pretty regularly for maybe a half-hour each day walking to class, and I haven't had to charge it ONCE. It's crazy. But it is nice for Apple to be conservative with battery estimates, instead of giving you a battery life that will never happen in the real world. chmsant
http://www.apple.com/store and then click on education on the side of the page. It will ask you for your school. Or if you have an apple store nearby, then you can visit it and show your school ID (online is easier) The shuffle recharges off POWERED USB 2.0 ports, or the USB AC adapter. If you have a non powered USB 2.0 port or a 1.1 port it will not charge. topher1078
From the Apple Store - www.apple.com/store - click the education link on the right - you should be able to pick your school from there. The Shuffle is only USB - you might want to actually find some information about the Shuffle before you buy one. :p The Shuffle battery is rechargeaable and lasts (according to Apple) 12 hours. EDIT: cswadner beat me to it. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/293107-ipod-shuffle-song-adding/#findComment-585574545 Share on other sites

raid0
I have the iPod Shuffle 1GB, very light, small and easy to use (you don't even need to look at it to control it). There is no display and I don't need one (I used to have an mp3 cd player with display and I never watched it). The only issue I'm complaining about is when you plug it in to change your library it charges up even if I didn't use half of its charge yet, so I don't know if I will lose battery life with the time. With these batteries, say you only play for a few hours a day and charge them every night, you might be using only say... 20% of it. It will take five charges like this to count as a full cycle, unlike older batteries where that could count as five.
