:ninja: Ok, to give you some examples:

When editing Quake levels:

Run Quiver on the main monitor, with a fifth perspective window in 3D mode on the right monitor so you can walk through the map.

Run Wadtool on the left screen to edit textures.

Run PS on top display to make new textures.

When editing web site:

Run WebDesign on main display.

Run PS on main display as well, with all pallettes on right screen for image space.

Run Safari on left display, showing a local and online copy of the site, open in two tabs. This way, you can compare the changes as you update the local then the online files.

Run iTunes on the left display in the mini mode, to save screen space but allow you access to common controls.

Also run Mail on right display to keep up with Neowin and LEM mailing lists (I live to comment and serve the masses).

Run iChat on top display to keep IM stuff seoerate from the rest of my workflow.

I know that I could do all these things with one display, but the increase in productivity I feel I achieve is a great deal higher than with one or even two displays. And, it can be had cheaply (two flashed 32MB PC PCI Radeon, around $30 each online), the monitors I got for free except my main 21". The other three were 17" displays that I got from a local PC shop that was throwing them out. The 21" cost me $45 b/c the people that run the shop thought the display was a little 'too dark' on thier Windoze boxes (I love you, Colorsync!). If you talk to enough people and know what to look for, you can find stuff for cheap.

Even Expose is great with this. The windows center on their individual screens. They used to all scale to the main display, but I believe this was disabled b/c it was slower and the windows werent as well defined when scaled so small.

But, I also did it b/c I could, to do something to make my peecee friends get jealous.

I used to work for MacResQ in technical support in the end of 2001, but they laid off their techs after 9/11 in Nov 2001. I have no formal training; just my own knowledge which not to toot my own horn is fairly extensive in both Macs and PC's. Have been unable to get back into the feild I love since

Anyone know how I can change the name of the Main HD icon? It won't let me edit it for some reason.

Right click (cmd-click)....Get Info....change it under Name and Extension

It's not letting me for some reason. ;)

What part doesn't it let you do?

    • If someone chooses to continue using SB and therefore goes through the manual intervention in the thread, afterwards the BSOD problem is gone. Whether they then re-enable the task doesn't matter, they're done, though on such machines it might pay to keep it disabled in case the next update (if there is a next) causes the same problem. OTOH, if someone disables SB in the BIOS, the problem is also gone. Incidentally, I noticed that this task exists even on machines that don't support SB. It's just installed across the board...and runs. Doing what on such machines is a little hazy.
