0 Slimy
hi, can someone plz explain to me why u all voted for diskeeper ????? 586801765[/snapback] it's just the most popular choice, it has a similar interface to the one in xp. but it's not better imo. it simply doesn't do as good a job in defragging as perfectdisk does. 0 quixos
o & o defrag can defragment by file access using the layout.ini in your prefetch folder. makes a big difference in firefox loading, photoshop and office. 0 Dark Reaper
Well, I used to use PerfectDisk but it had a lot of random errors for some reason. I currently use O&O Defrag and have been happy ever since. :) I recommend both programs! Because that's what the majority of the users who have voted so far use and like the most. 0 XPGoD
WAIT... Didn't Microsoft admit that the BUILT IN defragger is Diskeeper??? It's just a space defragger and will not defrag system files or the pagefile... O&O does... and Autosense is cool... 0 insanekiwi
i dumped diskeeper and tried perfectdisk. too bad it interferes with kerio personal firewall and gives a BSOD (in general) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/29565-the-definitive-best-defrag-thread/page/11/#findComment-586804075 Share on other sites

0 Dark Reaper
Insanekiwi - I have PerfectDisk and Kerio Personal Firewall and it doesn't BSOD me. I used both PerfectDisk, Diskeeper and O&O Defrag and I would have to say PerfectDisk. O&O Defrag comes a really close second. O&O defrag has a better interface but I felt a slightly bigger performance jump with PerfectDisk. 0 ghayes
The issue with Kerio is with older versions of Kerio Personal Firewall. The driver fwdrv.sys has a bug in it that causes Windows to crash when PerfectDisk is run. With the newer versions of Kerio Personal Firewall, the bug in this driver has been fixed. Note that INVISUS PC Security Solution has licensed an older version of Kerio Personal Firewall that includes the buggy fwdrv.sys driver. Thus, Invisus will also cause Windows to crash when PerfectDisk is run. - Greg/Raxco Software Microsoft MVP - Windows File Systems Disclaimer: I work for Raxco Software, the maker of PerfectDisk - a commercial defrag utility, as a systems engineer in the support department. 0 cropcircles
I've also used both these programs exclusively over the years. The latest has been Perfect Disk as I set it up for a daily defrag. The problem I ran into with Diskeeper and the "set it and forget it" function that was ETREMELY frustrating was when it would kick on to defrag when I was burning a CD or DVD. I sent this bug into Diskeeper. Maybe this function has been worked out in version 10.
