Airport Express Base Station?

Recommended Posts

hey i have an Airport Express basestation with a USB port on it, and i was wondering if you could connect anything else but a printer... for example connect an external USB hard drive? Also is it possible to connect a USB hub to have more than one USB device connected at once?

Please Help, Thanks....

p.s. hopefully this is in the right place, but if not, sorry

That port is only designed as a print server. That's why you can only plug in a printer. It's the same as any other print server designed to work with USB printers. You can't plug in other devices to other brands either.

Just wishful thinking, we don't know if they will, in the mean time you can always charge your iPod from its USB port lmao :p

I don't believe the port is powered so you can't even do that

could a mac and pc both share a printer or do all computers have to be macs to share a printer?

Dunno you know I am wondering this also. on the specs on Apples site it says that it requires 10.2.x or higher to use the printing it does not even mention a PC.. I own the Airport Express but I don't use it for printing since I don't own a printer.

It's a little known fact but Apple specifically designs their systems to be 100% incompatible with PCs.

Yes you can share the printer among a PC as well.

Actually the port is powered and you CAN charge your iPod off it including the shuffle 4G ipods and iPod Photo.

and why are you rolling your eyes at me?? go to the apple site look at the specs on the airport express it clearly says "Printing: 10.2.7 minimum" it does not mention if a PC can be used for printing or the minimum specs for a PC if it can be used with a printer. (BTW I am not saying a PC cannot be used I am saying Apple does not say it can / cannot it just does not mention a PC at all when talking about Printing)

Your post is just flamebait. I don't know why you all have to be so hostile around here with your posting we are not fighting a war you know.

Infact here a screenshot:

Maybe things look different in your region. Here's what I see on Apple's Airport Express page for Canada.

Share a Single Printer ? Wirelesslyb>

Have several computers in your home but only one printer? No problem. Just connect a printer to the USB port on the AirPort Express Base Station and the printer instantly becomes available to everyone on your wireless network.(6)

6. Wireless printing over USB requires Mac OS X v10.2.7 or later or Windows XP or Windows 2000 and a compatible printer.

The tech specs page has the same information.

Attached is a screenshot.
