Keep XP fast and stable!

Recommended Posts

Well, i know there are alot of guides floating around on the net, but still wnated to make my own guide, i will tell you here how to tweak xp and also how to keep it fast!

first, lets start with removing programs we dont use, they take up hard drive space and might slow down your system by just sitting there!

go to the control panel, then software, let it load up, could take a while if you dont have a very fast pc like me,

add-remove.gif

there click the sort menu, and select sort last time used, there remove progs you havent used for a few weeks, and reboot your pc!

Spyware

after rebooting the pc i suggest to start cleaning out spyware, spyware is made by pc nerdy's that dont have friends in real life and that are frustated cause they have no friends, so they make progs that look like what sites you go too, and then it sends commercials depending on your intrests, with the money the nerdys get from it they visit hores

a nice ap to clean spyware is microsoft antispyware

you can download it from here

Trash Files

Now its time to remove some temp files that are on your system, they take place in and actuall dont do anything

a nice app i recommend is CCleaner

screen_gen_01b.gif

as you can see it removes cookies, history and all that other **** that can be cleaned up!

Now lets defrag our system, defragging means putting all files togheter on the filesystem in the right place, its kinda complicated to explain how it really works, but lets just do it

Windows has a built in defragger but it sucks, lets install better software, i recommendood6pro_ps_sm.pngo&o defrag

it works great and fast, defrag your pc weekly!

THIS GUIDE AINT FINISHED!!! CHECK BACK TMORROW!!!

Clean the registry

Now lets clean the registry, the registry is something that contains all setting sand stuff of your pc, its one of the most important things to run xp!

a good reg cleaner is tune up utillities

Windows Update

Very important is too keep windows up to date! it helps keep your computer safe!

load up internet explorer and go to windowsupdate.com, let it install the software it needs to run windows update and install all updates and service packs, if it asks you to reboot, reboot and then check back at windows update till there are no further updates!

Virusses

Another thing that can slow down your computer are virusses, its allways recommend to have a antivirus an a firewall running to prevent anything bad to get on your computer

a antivirus i recommend is kaspersky

kaspersky-antivirus-personal-5.gif

and a firewall thats very good is Outpost

AO2c.gif

a firewall protects you from hackers that get on your system and put malicieus software on your computer!

Alternative browser!

I'm not saying ie is a bad browser, but its currently the most used browser around, and hackers focus on it, so it aint that safe anymore

a good browser i recommend is firefox!, firefox is made by mozilla company and i a very fast and safe browser

Get it here!

firefox_full.png

or another nice browser is opera!

yeah, we all hate the opera, but its just the browsers name, and its one of the best browsers availible, shame it aint as popular as firefox

Download the opera 8 beta, its awesome, and dont start ****ting its beta! its really good and i didnt come acros a bug yet!

Netscape

yeah its back lol, there is a version 8 beta

    • I noticed this was already happening within my organization; my teams location will change between remote and on-site without me having to do anything. Is it possible this is live already for select customers?
    • I wonder what it will show when I'm plugged in with my ethernet cable at home and not using WiFi.
    • While LibreOffice is not pleased to see a new competitor, they are absolutely correct in stating that Euro-Office using a MS file standard as a default is not being truly "European." Using a MS standard just means Euro-Office is just a "bastardized MS Office Suite." (Wasn't a major purpose of Euro-Office was to get away from being captive and enslaved to MS's Office Suite??)
    • Microsoft continues its long-term policy of spying on their users--despite vehement denials. That feature will be disabled (or removed) either "elegantly" with MS providing a true way to disable it, or "quick and dirty" via a third-party who WILL come up with a way to disable it. Your choice MS...
