install bluetooth module urself?

Recommended Posts

hey all.. just wondering im going to get the imac g5 soon and i really dont think i have a need for bluetooth at the moment so i had a look on the apple australia store and searched for blue and bluetooth but couldnt see the module for sale, so is it possible to buy the iMac and at a later date install the bluetooth module yourself when you feel you need it, because thats $70AUD i dont need to spend now and may never need to spend.

thats for your comments, and Freakz i might just do that because the money saved on the module would be used on the mouse (the only reason i could see using bluetooth)

just i thought i saw in that manual where you can see how to upgrade ram on apple support that you could install the airport express so i thought you could do the same with bluetooth, but all good, thanks!

The MX900 hub can be a pain to work with Mac OS X as Logitech has no drivers for it, and none of the Apple Bluetooth Utilities recongize it, so it could be hard pairing something other than just the mouse, but if that is not a problem with you, well that's ok. I know this as I didn't have BT in my iMac, and had to use the included hub, but now I just use my PowerBook's built-in BT.

yeah its $70 with student discount prices AUD not USD but we alerady pay more then what americans pay when convertion, if the updates to the imac do come and the prices adjusted to meet the exchange rate better then i would get it. here is a comparison

all prices below are non-education

$2999 AUD 20" iMac

using XE.com 2,316.20 USD 20" iMac

now those in USA would normally actually pay $1,899.00 USD

thats $417.20 USD different!! so yeah i would much rather avoid any unnecessary costs

I was told by a rep at the apple store that you could only buy it from them. The BT module is mainly used if you want to get a wireless keyboard/mouse or want to transmit entries from your adress book to your BT enabled cell phone.

That's because they do not know the extent of what BT is capable of, just ignore what they say it is used for. I was able to set it up to transfer files between my PC which uses a Logitech BT hub, and the PB's built in BT module just fine.
