the biggest obstacle is going to be safety, barring musk's reputation of course. waymo looks like it has a good track record and its vehicles are equipped with lidar, radar and cameras. society has often prioritized safety, but especially so with vehicles.
tesla seems to be taking a really big risk here. a couple of bad accidents could do a lot of damage to the public perception of the service so maybe they have something up their sleeve? i read a news report saying that they would be having employees monitor the service and control the car in case something happens. feasible for a test, but full rollout which is expected to happen?
this service is barely passing the smell test for me, but it's hard for me to imagine a company like tesla would bring this out if they didn't think it was ready because a failed rollout is a serious reputation killer (even more so then HH bs because even the nut jobs won't ride it!).
I prefer the Windows Vista Startup sound. It was designed in accordance with Windows AERO principles; the sound itself, among other niceties "has two parallel melodies played in an intentional 'Win-dows Vis-ta' rhythm".
Before Windows Vista was released to manufacturing there were discussions about this Startup sound being mandatory like the startup sound of the Xbox 360. (This did not happen.)
(I recall and appreciate that it is Windows Vista that first allowed users to disable only Windows sounds from the Volume Mixer.)
