The downfall of Volkswagen

Recommended Posts

It pains me to show this as I am a loyal VW owner myself. However, after viewing the all new Jetta V in person inside and out, I have to say that these photos are right on with what I think of the car. Not only was it overpriced, $27,000 which gets you the lousy 2.5l engine, leather, sunroof and a couple other notables, but it had more Japanese styling than VW has ever produced before. To prove my point of Jap styling, enjoy:

I think, in some sense, the styles have merged. I've seen higher-end Japanese cars try to emulate German styling, such as in the Acura TL, which features a rear that resembles more of an Audi than a Japanese car. What is disappointing, however, is the fact that the Volkswagen designers chose not to evolve the boxy look of the Jetta into a new "next" European car look - as BMW does with their line. Rather, their designers choose a more "safe" route.

The new design, I believe, will be ill-fated, because of the fact there's little differentiation on the exterior to cheaper cars, which happen to be more reliable - the Jetta was never known for great reliability, as compared to Toyota.

In addition, the advertising behind Volkswagen cars has moved from the upbeat and artsy shorts about lifestyles in the late 90s, early 00s, to annoying test drivers that are slightly psychotic. To be honest, the only reason I looked at Jettas was because the great "Sychronity" advertisement caught my eye (the one where all the beats on the road correspond to the wipers of the Jetta). It didn't decide for me which car I wanted, but it got me into the dealership when I was looking.

In an analogy, this would be the equivalent of taking away the iPod's smooth lines and replacing it with a more PC-looking enclosure, while replacing the iPod's clever advertising themes with something more mundane. It would be suicide for Apple, and it seems that VW has done just that to itself.

The GTI is just as ugly... kinda like a sporty corolla lol

That's your opinion and opinions are like...well you know. I think they look awesome with a couple modifications. Nothing beats the last generation R32, though.

Anyway, this is offtopic, but why do the colors of the Firefox logo in your sig look faded?

Uh ok.  Do you see any huge wings, ugly body kits, or gaudy graphics?  I think not.  It's funny because retards like you think that any compact car that is modified is automatically a ricer.

From what I've noticed, people who take offense towards comments such as those usually have a massive, spoiler which does nothing, a stupidly loud exhaust for all that 100hp, or something else that just looks obsurd on an economy car. Maybe neon gauges?

Though from the picture you posted, I assume that car is yours. Be careful, the ricer type over-do it and do not know where to stop!

It's not mine. I wish it was. I drive a truck without any modifications. And no, it doesn't have a wing. I just don't understand why people call everything a ricer anymore. I don't think they understand either and I'm not sure they have a clue what they're talking about.
