The downfall of Volkswagen

Recommended Posts

Here is an example of car design being subjective ;) I personally love the new CLS and think that BMW is going downhill with Bangle becuase he isnt making the elegants, sober cars they used to make but some "futuristic" version of their cars. shame on them  :(

I agree with that, the CLS is beautiful, the new BMW's are not

On topic, VW is still quite a big brand, don't they sell more Audi's than VW's here in the UK, that was a really interesting statement I read somewhere.

And Yes the new Bora // Jetta look very similar to a Corolla.

FWD cars benefit from wings as well. And funny enough, small, decent looking spoilers are usually useless. It's only the gigantic race car knock offs that actually provide downforce (assuming they aren't made of plywood)  ;)

They only provide downforce at certain, higher speeds (70mph+). For your daily drivers no matter the drivetrain, big bleacher looking wings are useless.

what about the rumored R36?  :shifty:

You are correct, it's coming. And it's also confirmed that the US will get the 4-door GTI will leave the door open for VW to bring the R36 to the states as well.

Same body structure, same internals, and you say no? Shows how two people can look at the same thing and see something different. The specs on the 2 cars are as close as those of any Buick and Chevy built on the same platform.

The President of Audi does not decide what VW does, or vice versa. That's my point, I agree that they are painfully similar cars, but Audi isn't the upscale end of VW.

Only provide useable downforce. They'll provide downforce at any speed, but hopefully your car doesn't need it at 30mph

Is the R36 confirmed, I heard a while ago that they where having trouble boring out the cylinders that wide in that size of engine.

He used to tell me that other Golf drivers would honk their horns at him and wave like they were

some cult group or something.

He's right, when you own a VW, it's a weird thing you're a part of. Either you love the comradery or could do without it. Of all of the vehicle manufacturers in the world, I'd say VW has prolly the largest following. Just look at sites like VWVortex.com, VWFixx.com, and the like. They thrive on the VW make alone. Even a small site I started 2 years ago, TNDubs.com, that tailors to a niche VW/Audi market receives over 1,000,000 hits a month. People love their VW's including myself. No matter the issues with it, it's still the most fun to drive car I've ever been in. Weird...I know.

Nah, classic mini owners do it more... the new BMW Mini's just don't get it and don't join in... but if you have a classic mini and pass another one you normally honk or wave to each other. It's really quite a friendly community!

Not to get OT but please point out to me Classic Mini forums and websites larger than those I mentioned? Also, I've seen all of 2 of those in real life in my 7 years of driving and there were both on trailers. How are you supposed to wave at them when they're on a trailer?

Like every other car in Europe is a mini

The group that has the wave down best is the Jeep owners. Waving to a similar car is a "Jeep wave".

no, because the president of VW is the same president of Audi ;) Audi, VW, Bugatti, Skoda, Bentley and Lamborghini are all parts of he ###### ( Volkswagen AG )

Mini's have to be the Mother of all that's a classic car. I wish I was shorter I would make my first car a Mini, a 70's one in racing green :)

    • WTF! Nah, not this one. If you were back then using computers in the 90s or you had a clue, you'd know this was huge and was seen and overused absolutely everywhere and you'd take this article as no more than a retrospective story. That's all it is.
    • these "editors" get paid by the amount of articles and not the quality of content; hence why we get this random stuff from the same "editor" time and time again.
    • 256 times the quality of an audio cd? I think audio cd's sound good so even twice as good as that would be something.
    • It’s not about the NOx. It’s about the electrical field.
