Acura TL A-Spec or Infinity G35?

Recommended Posts

While it doesn't have the same "prestige" as the Acura or Infinity, the upcoming Grand Prix GXP offers much more "bang for your buck" (performance, room, etc. for the money).

2005 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GXP PACKS V-8 POWER

ANAHEIM, Calif. ? Pontiac announced production plans for the 2005 Grand Prix GXP - a high-performance sedan equipped with more refined interior appointments, distinctive exterior appearance, sport-tuned suspension and a new 5.3-liter LS4 V-8 engine producing an estimated 290 horsepower.

The Grand Prix GXP is the latest GXP concept to reach production, following this year's successful launch of the V-8-powered Bonneville GXP, which currently accounts for about 30 percent of all Bonneville sales. It is the first Grand Prix model since 1987 to offer a V-8 engine and it is the first Pontiac equipped with Displacement On Demand (DOD) technology, which can provide up to a 12 percent improvement in fuel economy by seamlessly deactivating half of the engine's cylinders in certain light load conditions.

Drive them both like I have and you'll see the Infinity offers a little more than the Acura. I like the G35 more because of a smoother ride, more ameneties and in some cases, a better value. Both are great and appealing cars but if I had to choose, I'd say G35 all the way. Test drive them both and give them a fair chance and see what you think when you're done.

INFINITI

Coupe or Sedan?

I'll do it for sedan. Let's see....

298 HP vs. 270 HP

260 lb/ft vs. 238 lb/ft

RWD vs. FWD

Base price $31,000 vs. Base price $33,000

I think, basically, the TL is more luxury aimed while the G35, especially the coupe, is performance and luxury (less luxury than TL tho). I think of the TL more of a refined and sporty car for a person with a family needing 4 doors. Either car would be great, but I would personally choose the G35 because of the performance aspect and especially RWD. TL has crazy torque steer. It's also cheaper, but I heard Acura's navigation systems are amazing.

What kind of problems did you hear about G35's? I don't think there are widespread major problems, just little ones here and there. Only thing I can remember right now is the window motor just stopping to work, but dealer can replace the motor without problems. Acura's known to have transmission problems though. I've been looking into G35's since 2002 when it first came out, and I think it's a great car for the price. 2005 version gets boost in power and redline with more distributed/high-end power.

Do the g35's come in awd?? rwd is almost a big negative in my book as its supposed to be practically useless in the winter.

G35X is AWD. Only Sedan.

When you live in the south, winter doesn't matter :

A lot of people up north are just getting snow tires for the G, they say it handles fine with enough grip. I think it would be alright if you can control a car well enough.

*cough*STi*cough* ;)

The G35 is a nicer car. I personally never liked Acura's "luxury" line though. Also my 2 cents, FWD and RWD are just as easy to drive in snow if you know how. People just prefer FWD in snow because they instinctively take their foot off the gas when they slide, and FWD handles that much better.

The TL is one of, if not, the best looking cars on the road today... way better looking than anything that MB, BMW or Audi are offering these days. Acuras are also very reliable as well. However, if you don't mind 2 doors, you're going to have a tough time choosing between a TL or G35 Coupe. Otherwise, get the TL... or better yet... get the RL

WTFs up with the dude who suggested a Pontiac instead? He must be smoking some good **** [which I hope he can share].

g35 sedan is due for a makeover... what 3 years old now ? the TL just got a redo...

Actually 2 years old, since 2005 just came out December/January. Most cars get new styling in 4-5 years. They modified the 2005 VQ engine a little for more power/response with new front bumper, color, and wheels. The coupe didn't get any styling changes (except a little interior) but did get 298 HP and 19'' Rims. No Brembos tho :(

    • All versions is correct. The bug appears on any version of Windows with KB5094126 installed. It's a little insane to expect the author to explain that systems that can't possibly have that patch installed, will not experience the bug. If you have any gripe about the title, it would be that it doesn't mention the update at all, but I wouldn't agree with that either. A title is not expected to be a full summery of the article.
    • (Can't see if he's still wearing the clompy clown shoes though)
    • I'd say the first one failed to be as popular as Apple anticipated, but the easy adjustment here is to make fewer of them next time around. It would only be a "flop" if it isn't possible for Apple to recover the design and factory tooling costs given the number of units sold, which I doubt would be the case. It isn't like no one bought them; it just failed to become the new hot phone of the year.
    • You're right that it does not follow the plain meaning of the word, but in this context, it is a legal term defined in 49 U.S.C. Kind of how "wire fraud" laws apply even if a physical wire was not used. Given that it is codified in law, and it isn't just automotive journalists that don't understand evolving technology, I highly doubt congress would change a well understood term just because technology makes the term slightly less actuate.
