Acura TL A-Spec or Infinity G35?

I recently picked up the G35 Coupe (2 days ago actually)... and I think it is amazing. It looks sexy and has all the bells and whistles. My favorite feature is the Navigation system that slides up when you start the car and then hides itself when you turn the car off. The interior is roomy, sporty, and stylish. The 18" rims make a difference too, something that is not available on other modles in it's class.

I live in the Chicago area, so I was considering the AWD model but I just couldn't do it. The coupe is so much sexier, so I will just deal with the winter when it comes. I have all season tires, so I should be set.

A co-worker just bought the Audi A4 (which inspired me to look at a new car). It is certainly a nice car, but not nearly as sporty as the G35 and feels very German inside and out. Nothing wrong with German engineering, just not really my taste. Plus, it doesn't handle as well as the G35.

If you want a sexy car that draws looks from other drivers on the road then the G35 is what you want. Plus, look around at all of the road tests and reviews online... the G35 wins almost every road test and has rave reviews across the board.

Well, just thought I'd update this old thread of mine.

I made my choice and here she is:

  Basically I decided I wanted a luxury performance vehicle not performance luxury. Besides, found out if you add a couple mods, this thing can easily have handling similar to a bmw (cold air intake, comptech rear sway bar, Tien springs and suspension...)

i would of waited for the 2007 infiniti g35 or gotten the current g35. i really dislike the acura brand becuase it isn't considered as a luxury brand. and, they screwed up their car line up so badly. the acura TSX in america is sold as a honda accord in japan. wtf is up with that? and, the civic si is really destroying the sell of the acura rsx. who want that crappy rsx anyways? it looks obselete, you cost a few grands more and has no navigation. it handles worst than the honda civic si. thus, acura is a terrible brand. and, what's up with the acura nsx? who the hell want to buy that pieve of junk? they barely sell a few hundred a year. they should just cancel the production of it to say money and invest it in a product redesign or something. they need to learn how to differentiate themselves from honda. otherwise, it's just a really expensive honda.

oh, i also forgot that the acura tl looks nearly identical to the acura tsx in the front. talk about uninspired design...

Well I have to agree with you as far as regular A4 goes and this comes for a hardcore Audi guy. However, I would have to disagree that you would be getting more looks in G35 coupe then in oh let's say Audi A4 Convertible 3.0L. G35 coupe has been seen so many times that nobody really pays attention although it's a wonderful car.

My A6 is in service and I got a loaner S4 Convertible. OMFG! I've talked to so many chicks and gotten looks that's not even funny and this happened in 2 days only :) I swear, my next car will definitely be S4 Convertible or RS4 Convertible if it ever comes to the US.

i've been looking into TL's for awhile now but this is the first time I have ever heard A-Spec used. Can someone please tell me what that means? I do not see it anywhere on acura's website. For myself, personally, I'd go for the TL the G35 MPG totally throws me off, plus I definetly value luxury interior over speed/control. Right now, im not sure between acura tsx (when the redesign comes out next year) acura TL...or the Lexus IS 250...acura TSX seems the best fit for me since it gives the most bang for buck value economically but I do not know if my truck can last til the redesign comes out

to the guy above me (and you guys can correct me if im wrong)

acura tsx redesign is due out for the 2008 model (so release in fall 2007)

acura TL redesign is not out until the 2009 model (so it will be released in fall 2008) ...for me thats too long to wait

lets be clear now, a G35 Coupe against a TL? If you're a single guy with no family get the G35 Coupe, you'll be rollin around with style and power. You wont find too many cars out there with a 280HP engine for less than 35k. The TL isn't as sexy, but its bigger. If you get the Coupe with the navigation, its a beauty, I just got one the other day and I can't stop thinking about how sexy it is. But the TL is nothing against the G35 Coupe from my point of view, its more stylish, more powerful, better handling, faster, and its everything you would want for a sports car.

I've been thinking about getting a new sedan for a while now. I knew about the G35, but was completely turned off by the rear wheel drive. I didn't think it would hold up to a New Hampshire winter. Up until a week ago I was SURE that I would buy an Acura TL. I wanted nothing more. Just to be safe though, I checked out a few comparable cars.

I stopped into a Volvo dealership during my lunch hour to check out an S60 R. I knew going in that I like the TL alot better but the S60 had AWD so I thought I would give it a shot. I was at the dealership for about 12 minutes before I had seen enough. The backseat was TINY. The interior was like a Hyundai, alot of cheap plastic parts. Not alot of fit and finish. And it was $4K MORE than the TL.

There was an Infinity dealership across the street and I still had 45 minutes of my lunch hour to kill, so I stopped in. I was still completely turned off by the RWD, but I figured that someday I might want to trade in my TL, and the Infinity M might be worth a look. After spending half an hour with the G35, the TL was a distant memory. The G35 felt MUCH roomier. The back seat felt alot bigger, (even though the listed specs say the TL has more legroom) and the back seats reclined. The fit and finish of the seats and dash felt much more plush (though I know many people disagree). As far as Gadgets go, both cars are about the same. They both have premium audio, satellite radio, navigation, memory seats, heated seats, etc. The 80 degree door openings were a plus for me since I have kids and carseats.

There really isn't much difference between the G35 and TL in terms of interior quality, comfort, and gadgets. The big difference is the RWD vs FWD. RWD handles better and corners much smoother. Let's face it, I'm gonna love the RWD 355 days a year and I'll just have to suck it up the other ten when it snows. The G35 has about 30 more HP, and after driving both cars, I can say that you can really feel the difference. The torque steer in the TL is horrendous.

For $2K more than a TL you get a car with 30 more HP, better handling, aero package including sweet looking spoiler. You get 18 inch wheels with premium rims, and splash guards. Also, I don't know what its like where you live, but around here, I see a TL at almost every stoplight. And though I've noticed the G35 alot more now that I have one, it's still a little more unique than the TL.

I love my new G35

I like your post but please just remember for future reference to check when things were posted if possible because this was last discussed in August.

    • Surprise! We still can't get it right. With the current state of AI, the crappy software, the huge mega-corporations that back all of these idiot things, I think we are a very long way away from SAE Level 5. I, for one, will never get in one.
    • Nice. September/October GA?! I'll keep following it, but won't install any preview or beta versions.
    • Wow, that could have been dangerous, certainly not ready for these things. They have to be 100% or pretty well close to it. Not that I will see one i doubt, never mind ride in one, they may have them in London, but I doubt they will come to where I live.
    • Nothing kills CMF Phone 2 Pro's successor due to rising memory prices by Hamid Ganji Storage and RAM prices have been rising over the past year, leading to a significant increase in the cost of electronics for customers around the world. Many companies are now revising their plans for upcoming devices due to higher component costs and overall production expenses. CMF is the latest company to cancel the successor to one of its best-selling phones due to rising memory prices. CMF is a sub-brand of Nothing and focuses on making budget smartphones for growing markets. The brand launched the CMF Phone 2 Pro last year with some eye-catching specifications and an affordable price. While many customers may have been waiting for a successor this year, one of the company’s executives has announced that CMF will not release a new smartphone this year. And AI is to blame. As Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis announced on X, the company has been working on a successor to the CMF Phone 2 Pro, but with current memory prices, it cannot “build a phone that feels like a genuine step forward at a price that makes sense for CMF.” So, no new CMF phone will be launched this year. Meanwhile, Evangelidis said the company still has several new products in the pipeline, including some in entirely new categories. He added that the Nothing brand will also continue launching new products through 2026. Budget smartphones are among the first victims of the surge in RAM and memory prices, as they have become more expensive to build. The sharp increase in memory costs could also reshape the traditional price ranges associated with budget phones. Apple CEO Tim Cook also recently said that price increases for some of the company’s products are unavoidable because RAM and memory have become significantly more expensive this year. Analysts estimate that the base price of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro could rise to $1,399 due to current market shortages.
    • Nudge me when they bring back hardware audio acceleration so I can get my EAX 5 back. We've evolved graphics to real-time path tracing, but regressed audio some 15 years back in time with this stupid software audio stack.
